The Muppets - still a class album to this day. You can't beat a bit of Fozzie Bear!

Default Black Sabbath Volume 4

Black Sabbath Vol 4 when I was 12 years old. In my later, more pretentious, years I was quite embarrassed by this, being more into Birthday Party, Joy Division, Gang of Four etc. Now I think it was pretty cool. Paranoid was better though.

Belinda Carlisle heaven on earth single . Only bought it because she looked great on the cover and i had a thing for her back then.Never even played it and ended up throwing it away a couple years later. So that was money well spent

Go on then, I have been avoiding this post for a while, but now to fess up

For Christmas 1973 I got

1. David Bowie, the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust

2. Elton John, Don't shoot me, I am only the piano player

I went on to buy all of Bowies stuff up to Diamond Dogs and never bought another Elton John record again.

It is worth noting that with some xmas money in the new year sales my third album bought for just 99p was...Relics...Pink Floyd

Floyd and Bowie have been with me ever since.......

The only single I ever owned was a gift from my good pal Chris who got a picture sleeve copy of the 'Sky' double A side Toccatta signed by the entire band minus John Williams in HMV Northumberland Street Newcastle upon Tyne in 1979/80. I still have it

ps. didnt albums smell better in the old days.....you read correct dear friend ...I said 'smell'

Nothing wrong with Elton John, especially at that vintage. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was a superb album. Up there with the best of Bowie - who was a favourite of mine (until Let's Dance).

As for the smell..? Each to their own.
