My greatest rational fear is suffering a lingering illness that takes years to die. When I go I want it to be quick and painless.

My most silly fear is that a bug will crawl inside my ear while I'm asleep

Did you happen to see, or are you citing that Rod Serling "Night Gallery" episode about the earwig in that guy's ear. The good news, if one could call it that, was that it ate it's way through his head and came out of his other ear, but causing him excruciating pain in the process ... the bad news was that it laid eggs while inside the guy's head!! That was a pretty bazaar episode.

Similar to what ubu roi said...I would hate to die and still be alive inside. Like they say about lethal injection, that you feel intense pain but you can't scream or indicate anything because you're paralyzed.

Like premature burial. I know, it's silly, these days...you're most certainly dead after the transfusion, but still...

How long does it really take the electrical system in the brain to shut down? Do you still have any activity or awareness when they close the lid?

Oh yes, that episode was the source of many nightmares. So was the ceti eel scene from Star Trek II where the slimey little bug-thing crawls inside Chekov's ear

Not me, boy! It's the slow, agonizing way for me. And none of this 'peacefully, in his sleep, surrounded by a loving circle of friends and family' either.

Strangers staring. Facedown on the pavement.

I've always said it: It's not that bad having earwigs eat their way through my head - it's that the little blighters can't seem to remember to wipe their feet, and insist on laying eggs all over my brain pan!

Me, I am a parent, I have two sons, 18 and 20

When the 20yo was just 18 he was in a bad accident and his lungs collapsed. He was in the ICU on a ventilator for over two weeks.......he did pull through and make a full recovery.

.....I'm not going to say it.......but you figure it out........

Hells Bells. Beerland is such a small place. We really do need to start learning about the world beyond. Just wait till I tell the diminishing tribe.
