Early Sallah injury and two GK mistakes decided the game. Klopp's huge strentgh is to build teams that are way better than the sum of their parts. But - they are still parts, and Karious, Lovren, Henderson, Millner, Wijnaldum, etc. are only average players on an international level or even worse, Karius is an average Bundesliga keeper to me. These players are usually not meant to make history, simples. You still gotta wonder, what happens if Ramos doesn't "knock Sallah out"? Different game, they dominated Real Madrid in a CL final until this injury. -- That being said, Klopp has been at LIV for only 2.5 years. In a particular way this could be just the beginning.

Ramos did the job, as usual.
No cards for this kind of fault? Everything was on the wrong side of the road for Liverpool... |

most teams are built from the back, Liverpool start up front, then midfield and hope that is enough to protect the defence. Umpteen years on and the same old problems keep resurfacing, dodgy keeper, leaky back four, reliance on one or two players, no strength in depth and an inability to put teams away. Maybe one day someone at LFC will work it out.
As for Real Madrid three on the bounce is some achievement in this day and age, Could they repeat the first five? The debt will no doubt be taken care of by the state or Santander bank. |

Ramos's record says he aint no saint Curious thing more than a few ex-player commentators say he didnt do anything wrong this time...the cynic in me says even if he didnt exploit the opportunity hes guilty anyway because thats his way...winning at any cost. The Nasty Boys: Ramos and Pepe tarnish Real Madrid's rich history with play acting, rows and red cards 2014 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...new-level.html To be fair past defenders when you could tackle from behind through the legs and take the ball and the achilles were far worse. Goal keepers who would line up players running into the box and land on them just as they punched the ball away another speciality we no longer see thankfully Last edited by buttsie; May 27th, 2018 at 08:53 AM.. Credit to Gareth Bale he just put two great goals past Karius, the first one I doubt any goalkeeper would have saved it was quite brilliant. Gutted but philosophical we still CL next season but we desperately need some new players and perhaps return to a Fab Four instead of three. As Steven Gerrard once said "we go again" next time. Losing Salah was a massive blow and I just knew that without his firepower and speed Liverpool were going to find it harder. Ramos was a sneaky little bit and should have been booked several times and why was he joking with the linesman as Salah sent off? Bad sportsmanship that because it was Ronaldo that consoled Salah as he had to go off.

Bale's 2nd goal reminded me of when Spurs played Lyon in 2013. Remy Vercoutre's brain was turned to mush by Bale's technique of shooting with his left foot and making the ball swerve, but not left-to-right as normal, not even right-to-left as would be quite special, but both left AND right.
No doubt Karius should have saved it, even if he'd just parried it, but I think Bale isn't getting the credit for what was a bloody good 30-yard shot. Bale will be playing for Man U next season. There's only a handful of clubs who could afford him and have a wages policy that could accommodate him. Man U, PSG (if they offload Neymar), Barcelona, .... and that's about it. I doubt that Man C will be in the race for the same reason they withdrew from chasing Alexis Sanchez. .

absolutely. He threw sallah to the ground with intent. And if man utd fans are saying that you know it's true. There was a close up of him grinning and nodding to one of his team mates just after. Ramos is probably the biggest cheat in the game. Twice he went down holding his face for nothing plus the late "foul" that was nothing of the sort. Madrid were onto a hiding until sallah went off. Maybe the russians also had a word with ramos as with him in the egypt team they're not getting past the group stage next month.

While Kareless in goal was abysmal, I cannot help thinking how Bale had so much space to execute the overhead kick. If a defender would have been close to him and tried heading the ball a free kick against Bale would almost certainly have been given for high kicking. As you say Buttsie the defence has cost Liverpool heavily for about a decade. Last edited by Markus R; May 27th, 2018 at 12:39 PM.. Reason: Added text |
