The best piece of advice I ever had at school was from a teacher of PE. He said "if you get a job and you hate it, you're in the wrong job" now I know that's easy to say. We all need food and shelter, but in essence he was right. Waking up in the morning with fear and dread is not life. We work for money not pain.

Of course, there does exist a situation in which one really LOVES what they do, but runs into problems with bosses or idiots or whatever. One might LOVE being a car mechanic, but every goddamn place he or she has worked sucks big time. So sometimes it's about hating a specific job, and not a specific trade or profession or career or whatever.

So (I hate to be negative--especially in this forum, which I come to for fun and relaxation) there does exist the possibility that you don't want to change jobs, although the job sucks, because you're doing something you love.

Look at it this way: if you are a car mechanic, and your boss is the world's greatest asshole, then what are you supposed to do? Quit and become a bank clerk?

The OP did the right thing, by all means. But it's still a situation of risk in a precarious world in which the working class have to take what they can get. Sad, sad, sad. But true.

i was once told by a boss...

"Look after number one!",
(meaning to shit on others to get ahead, like he had done...!!??)

to me that made him the biggest asshole in the company... there is always a way of getting on, while still being moderately 'nice'....

remember... the more you kick your way upwards... the harder you'll get kicked back on the way down..!!

Middle management on paye wages & bonuses for meeting targets find that out everytime we go into recession...

I've watched some good friends bust their balls for employers only to be rewarded with
a redundancy package because removing higher paid employess means you can then
get some wannabe employee from below to do the same work for less pay

Nothing personal just capitalism at work....profit profit profit............and customer service

Shame it took the ex-chief executives / now directors on boards about 15 years to work out if you dont attach profit goals to sustained performance you get big payouts to ex-chief executives as the company starts going into free fall

One wonders where it will all end as house & rent prices sky rocket while wages stagnate or fall for the majority?

Before I decided to become self employed, the only way I knew how to get a pay rise was to threaten to quit. I knew I was good, and they needed me. Now i'm not being big headed when I say that. Sit back and think about it. You can't buy experience. It usually ended up in a meeting were we agreed a deal. Remember you're busting your balls for a wage, so don't accept second best.

Bullying is very serious. I had the same experience, but since I tried to quit, things got better. In reality, there's a bullying culture in the post-Soviet area's public service.

Seems the only way out of the rat race is to operate above the law and prey on those around you
