Mr. Fats, you say you don't get your info from Fox News... But this was one of their reporters who screwed this up.

I know... just a coincidence.

Ahh JP you got me on this particular one ! I never said I didn't get SOME of my info from them. I just try not to use that info as my sole basis for forming what will turn out to be my opinion.

It appears to be incredibly windy today (unusual for May) and as of last night our new fence, which remember was only erected Saturday, has had a really good test of strength. By all accounts it is holding up nicely, which is what you expect a fence to do of course. It has vertical slats and concrete blocks at the bottom, so it will make it a lot more stable and should last at least 10 years or more. Post a pic soon.

One last thing. Last night I was watching two programmes I had recorded via SKY+ machine and was in the middle of the second one(MacGyver Season 2) and suddenly the screen went blank. I realized that it had somehow reset itself and so I unplugged it for thirty seconds and then re-plugged it in. The box began to re-initiailise and a sign came up saying that it had been updated. Another sign said to wait whilst the box continued it's initialising. I gave it half an hour and still it wouldn't allow me access to the planner or my programme that I was midway through. This morning it hadn't done it either, so I decided to unplug it again. After another 5 minute wait it finally worked but I imagine many of you would have been the same as me - hating this bloody technology for not doing what it should do when YOU want it to.

I would never sink that low. OK, admittedly I don't care about cricket, but even if the Football World Cup (which I do care about) was exclusively on Sky, I would then rather not watch it.

History will judge Gordon Brown very harshly, ...
Will it? I grant you that his financial policies turned out to be much more flawed than what people thought at the time, but most of the dislike directed at Brown tends to come from his period as PM, and mostly based on his then apparent inability to "strike a chord" with people, to emotionally connect to them. While that emotional quality is useful for a political leader, it seems to have very little correlation with the qualities of their actual policies. In the end, Brown's disliked because he just is - like the uncool kid at school.

I suppose, the reason I defend Brown in this respect is that I share that particular weakness with him.

When we got SKY+ it was a free upgrade as the last box we had had given up the ghost so we got the all-singing, all dancing HD one, but I have to say that HD and ordinary television aren't that different. The sound on HD channels needs putting up because sometimes it is difficult to follow, but if you are watching something on an HD channel that was in the 80s or 90s it envariably comes out as a smaller screen - because widescreen wasn't used until the mid to late 90s. Last year, as a Christmas present I got my Dad another feed into the box, which meant that he could record 2 programmmes and watch one already recorded (but oddly enough you can't watch a third programme LIVE! Anyway it also meant that he could record whole series should he want to. The really useful thing about a SKY+ box is you can rewind live television - there is some kind of delay which allows this so not all programmes are broadcast live it seems.

WOW! Sudden clap of thunder just now and pouring rain, plus the wind is blowing a gale - not the sort of weather we expect in May!!

Nicer day today. Went to vote with parents around 11am. We go to a Hindu Cultural Centre around the corner from us and as usual I did my "table for 3 by the window" joke which this year got a laugh. I don't know about you but it all feels a bit anti-climatic. You go in, they check your name, they give you the ballot paper and you go to an open booth and take a stubby pencil and mark a cross against the person you want, of the party you support. After that you put it into a box and that's it. Seems more exciting when people talk about it rather than doing it. Next time will be the Local Elections in a few years time...worst case scenario is another General Election in JULY - but that's never happened so far.

Germany does seem to be a place that doesn't appear to want to join in as most of what are classed as daft German laws are fairly sensible

Maybe it's time some old anachronistic laws were looked at and put to bed at last and to make it relevant to the actual thread title

THX a lot @ Wendigo!
Your compilation of outdated laws ...
