Default Windows 10

I run my main computer under Windows 7 Pro.
I am protected by Bitdefender.

I had accepted to upgrade my other computer (a laptop) from Windows 7 to Windows 10, out of curiosity.
But this decided me to postpone the upgrade of the main computer for as long as possible.

But I continued on downloding the updates and you know what ?

I regularly receive messages from the AV, telling me i have a situation.
Of course, I check on it and what ?

Bitdefender tells me my latest vulnerability is because I should upgrade to Windows 10.
My reaction will be to change to another AV.

Odd. I'm running Windows 8.1 along with BitDefender Internet Security 2015. BitDefender's Vulnerability Scan option was quiet, except for nagging me about Skype updates. That despite the fact that I deinstalled Skype.

I had to manually edit the registry to get rid of references to skype.exe. Now the Vulnerability Scan is quiet.

BitDefender is consistently in the Top 3 of security apps. You can change to another product, but frankly I don't believe you'll find anything better.

This vulnerability matter dates from today.
I checked. There is no other download to do except for Windows 10.

Before Bitdefender I used Kaspersky.

Default Anything for the iPhone ?

Anyway I found no explanation to 'why Bitdefender warns me of a vulnerability problem'.

Default A possible explanation

Today, I have run my antivirus fully.

The result was 22 cases in which Bitdefender (my parameters for the degree of watchjfulness can be described as 'agressive') warned me.

I tried to solve them by asking their removal, but apparently that was a false alert since I could only 'ignore'.

After that I checked for any 'important dowloads' to do but there was only the option to update towards Windows 10.

I unchecked it and then I had no vulnerability situation anymore.

The option to update costs me 2 841,1 Mo on my hard-drive.
I never asked for it.

Microsoft tries to oblige me to update. They are stubborn but me too.

A little while ago I wondered what would happen if someone declined the EULA. I now have a preliminary answer, at least.

First, some basics. The test machine is a Dell Latitude E6500 2.8 GHz with 4 Gb RAM and a 320 Gb 7200 rpm HD. Nothing special but a machine thats been very reliable. The machine is running Win 7, Service pack 1, with all available updates on a fresh repartition, reformat and reinstall. Security apps include Comodo firewall, Panda AV, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. The newest version of Firefox is also installed with NoScript, BetterPrivacy, AdAware Plus, Ghostery and a couple of other extensions installed. Thats about it. Not much else.

I did the R&R a couple of days ago, set the machine to not power down and to allow all updates by default. For a couple of days nothing happened. Then last night it finally installed all updates (around 300 total). This morning I double checked everything and it did appear all updates had been installed.

Around 2:30 this afternoon the Win 10 icon appeared on the task bar. So here goes.

Clicked to reserve the download (what a crock) and it started checking the machine for compatibility (the laptop had already had the Beta Win 10 on it so I knew that would be no problem). Quickly determined it was compatable and asked if I wanted to download the software. Sure, lets download.

Then up came the EULA. At the very top there was a disclaimer about the ability to sue (part 10) so I scrolled down and there it was, "you have to sue indivudually, no class action suits". So I clicked Decline. A new window popped up asking if I really wanted to do that as Win 10 wouldn't install so I clicked on yes. I don't want to install. So it closed.

Did that twice and the icon to install Win 10 is still there. So I guess it will be nagware. If anything changes I'll let you know.

I just focus on which AV software are the best and if any of those are free

You have to check every so often, because the AV software you use might take a dive (happened to me a few years ago which resulted in a re-build of my PC after it got some malware).

I fully agree with you.

A few years ago (that must be 3 years) I switched from Kasperski to Bitdefender.

Before switching I knew well Bitdefender. I even had tried it on a client's network.

I noticed the position of the software who claim to be protecting us is instable.

This is because the menaces are in constant evolution and so are the AV softwares.

Besides the people who tell us which AV are the best must be aware of a lot of things.

What's more the OS are themselves in constant evolution.
