That policy was ruled illegal by the UK government a year or so later, but tube fares stayed affordable. IIRC the improvements were not due to Ken but to maintenance and new lines coming into service (e.g. the Jubilee line). Some of the carriages were ancient. Does anyone else remember the Drain (Waterloo and City line) back then? Smoking carriages existed until 1987 (the King's Cross fire), so these were brown and disgusting!
Damned... when I was in London... it seems to me that a ticket cost 3.5£.
70 times more expensive in 20 years...
How is it possible? Only the costs of improvements?

It's not quite as bad as that, although it is certainly a lot more expensive and the system is not always clear. A Zone 1 to Zone 1 journey (anything inside the Circle line) is £2.40 with any contactless payment card (i.e. most credit/debit cards with a chip embedded), but roughly twice the price if you buy a ticket! If you're going into London by train, then a one-day travelcard can be added to most train tickets for about £5 (YMMV), which gives travel on all tube/bus services for the day.

For comparison, I think Men Only cost about 50p an issue in 1980 and now I think it's about £5. Perhaps we should start a porn-inflation-index . . .

Is there anyone who gives a flying fuck? Just another parasite for the taxpayer to support.

Welcome back Jim, I was wondering where you'd gone.

I think his Mum left him a half share in £17m, so he's not exactly on the dole.

Like any couple I wish them well and hope for the best.

It may just be that members of a mainly porn forum are different than mainstream UKer's but the general consensus is definitely anti royal.
Is this the majority opinion there? If it is why not cut the royal's loose from the government money?

No it's not the case Santee.

Public support for the monarchy fluctuates but around the 75% approval mark. The Queen has approval rates of 85+%.

This is about as fair as a description of the way Royal family is funded as any. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financ...h_royal_family

There is a small but vocal anti monarchy movement. Usually well balanced by having a bag of chips on each shoulder. Interestingly, having been involved in the planning of several Royal visits (note taker, umbrella carrier etc) I have always been amazed that the most strident and vocal anti Royals are usually the ones demanding to be first in the queue to meet them.
