Tried improv theater, worked as a game-show hostess in Istanbul, fought off the affections of a (married) media tycoon, taught aerobics, did some UK TV work, and met Victoria at a film audition. Singing was almost an accident.

Within two years the Spice Girls were hitting it big. "A photographer had asked for 40,000 UKP or he would sell topless pictures of me to the newspapers. Apparently, one of the shots showed my crotch. It had been taken without my knowledge by a photographer who claimed to be changing film. I felt sick ... but I refused to pay him off." News of the World broke the story, and the hunt was on.

TV hosts would pull out her old nude photos during live interviews to get a reaction. "I looked him directly in the eyes and said, 'It is something I did. As we say in Wannabe, If you want my future, forget my past.' My heart was pounding." A fitness instructor was paid to make up stories about what a tiger Geri was in bed. She called the editor to complain and was told the story will die on its own. The more celebs protest something, the bigger an issue it becomes.

Sex life? "All my relationships in the previous five years had been at vulnerable moments, or when I was bored. They had lasted either three weeks or three months. It was almost a patten. It would probably take a shrink to sort out the reason."
