I love the single bladed BIC, black handle - but cant find the suckers anymore. So I got a free Mach 3 in the mail, been buying freaking expensive blades for that. Still recall the fake TV ad on "Saturday Night Live" when the two-bladed disposables came out: "try our THREE bladed razor" "No try OUR FOUR bladed razor" if those joke writers and patented the thought - they'd be filthy stinking rich. And I like to avoid multi-blades as a result. Back to a look on EBoght to see about those BICs...

I remember in a VIZ I think it was, years ago someone wrote in in regards to multi bladed razors and suggested that manufacturers should make a single bladed razor from the last blade that "shaves the closest" thus saving companies the expense of having two or three preliminary blades

....and I though this was going to be another 'hairy pussies of the 1970s' thread versus Pornoville's de riguer pube-free look.

I didn`t say i disapproved of this thread , just that there was one in place for electrical goods. Neither does my much harder working colleague mod pal disapprove either , he just found what i had written slightly amusing. What has nobody heard of the comic genius who be Peter (I`ll flog this idea until it kills you) Kay ? As in "Garlic bread" = "Shaving thread " Ps I apologise for any inconvenience caused during the time you took to apologise for any inconvenience caused Now then i`m off ! To start my nose hair clipper thread , telling you i have a feeling that thread will run and run

I rather like the thread. I use a twin head Phillishave, very basic but effective and a rechargeable phillips trimmer for my goatee.
I would love the time and luxury for a full on wet shave but I never seem to get around to it. I also use a very nice aftershave which has become kind of my 'signature' fragrance. You cant get it in a lot of places but its called Vetiver by Guerlain.

Oh yes, you can try it with an adjustable razor !
That are DE or safety razors with the feature that you can adjust the angle of the blade. Thus you can regulate the aggressivness of the razor and find the right setting for your skin. Standard razors have just one setting that has to fit all. Often too aggressive for very sensitive skin. Look for a "Merkur Progress" or a "Gillette Adjustable" The merkur is very popular and widely available. The Gillette is not manufactured any more, but you can find it on ebay. It's known as a fairly sensitive razor. I'm not sure about it, but I've heard that cut throat razors provide a mild shaving since they are such sharp, they cut the hair without any pressure. I think billybunter knows more about that ? |

I tried electric razors but don't get on with them. They irritate my skin. I've been through various brands of disposable and wouldn't recommend any of them, not least due to inconsistent manufacturing quality: the allegedly identical razor can be surprisingly different in blade characteristics from packet to packet of even from razor to razor and that's a serious problem. If forced to fall back on disposables now, I would buy the sensitive skin Bic ones with the orange handles as the least worst. Special soaps, brushes, foam, shaving balm, aftershave...I don't use them even if I get them given for nothing. I get all the lather I need from a common or garden bar of bath soap.
In 2002 I was stranded in Normandy with no razor and had to buy one from a shop which had no disposables. I bought the cheapest (of course): an old Gillette GII covered in dust, a product already superseded by the GIII but still on sale here in this backwater. It was a damn good razor, much better than any disposable. I accidentally left it behind at a hotel in 2008, otherwise I would still be using it. Now all the market leaders seem to be three/four/five/six bladed shite advertised by footballers. I bought a supermarket own brand cheapo with a swivel head which uses GII compatible blades. I buy the generic supermarket ones, not the Gillette ones. Are you starting to observe a common theme here? The supermarket Gillette clone is doing very good service and I am pleased with it. On average about once a month or once every six weeks I cut my face to ribbons. This is not the razor's fault. I am naturally clumsy and careless and not very good at really fiddly operations: it takes severe concentration to shave well and safely and every now and then my attention span isn't long enough.

no shaving aloud. Use your razors for what they're supposed to....

If like me you have thick course hair, a bic or a dry shave can be very sore. A wet shave opens the pores and produces a closer shave. I use mach 3 razors when i'm in a hurry, but a cut throat when grooming. Plus I enjoy the ritual. Electric razors never worked for me i'm afraid. As for trimming beards and other areas, plenty of products on the market. As our good friend Tab said. Remember Remington!? works or your money back!
