Slowly I've been learning how people who solely provided voices for Power Rangers have been prolific voice actors, for example Barbara Goodson, the voice of OG main villain, Rita Repulsa. Today I learned a bit of the legacy of Richard Steven Horvitz, who was the voice of Alpha 5. I knew that already. I watched 7 episodes of Power Rangers In Space (I think it may be the best season so far, fan consensus seems to agree on this and RPM) today, and one of them featured his voice. He was gone from the show by that point as they shifted from Alpha 5 to Alpha 6 (voiced by one person in Turbo, and then Wendee Lee, another prolific voice actor in the In Space season). They brought him back to voice a monster-of-the-day, Datascammer. I didn't recognize the voice until I read an interesting trivia bit on that episode. The voice Horvitz made for that is similar, as was the monster's overall personality, to Zim from the cartoon show, Invader Zim. That's because he's the voice of Zim in the show, Billy West was Zim in the pilot. So I went back to the episode and now I recognized the voice.

During the In Space era, he was working on Angry Beavers, another Nickelodeon show, one I completely forgot about until I read up this trivia bit today. Looking at his Wikipedia, he's done small roles on a lot of hit cartoon shows from the 90s and 2000s, and I haven't watched Invader Zim in over 10 years, it's easy to just forget. I'll try not to again. That episode of Power Rangers, it should've been bad because it was centered on a child and 9 times out of 10, child actors on Power Rangers are either bad or hilariously bad. This girl was neither, and they really throw a fastball with the fact that her brother died (this season is the first to really use "death" and "die" in the franchise, the go-to word would be "destroy."). It just speaks to the quality of the show, so far the black sheep of this season was that fucking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover. I only have 9 episodes to go, but I'm confident that my opinion of the show will remain the same, it's fantastic. It's also 20 years old, it was the 1998 season of the show, so, good timing to watch it.
