Slower than regular bullets
I believe that bullets fired from firearms in movies are becoming slower over time.
Documentary bullets still have the same speeds now as they did in the 1940s. However in fictional cinema, I swear the amounts of time between when we see/hear the a sidearm or rifle fired and we see/hear the bullet holes near the target are getting longer. The worst example was a 2012 or 2013 movie I watched last night. Three times we heard the pistol fire at a target less than 15 yards away: twice the hero had sufficient time to choose to move his/her hand away from the spot where the bullet holes then appeared, and once the hero was able to choose to move his entire body away from the impact point! Remember that these bullets are supposed to be moving faster than the speed of sound and over such short distances there should be virtually no time between when we hear/see the weapon firing and hear/see the bullets hitting! Maybe, in my old age, I'm just hearing slower ... e.d. |

For me that's one of the best parts of any Star Trek episode: PROBLEM SOLVING!
The scenes of them sitting around a conference table assessing a 'situation' makes for great storytelling. When the episodes story features people in a dangerous situation (either on a ship, a planet etc) the captain turns to his crew and says "Here's the problem, people, how are we going to fix it?" To me these are great examples of methodical planning, team work and offering/listening to others advice/opinions. |
