It seems impossible and difficult to believe that so many images are containing threats/viruses, so one would be inclined to believe that the problem must lie with Avast.
Yes, AVAST is having a forum. Tomorrow I will write this problem and ask. At that Forum are employee of AVAST also.

Once more: it isn't the *.JPG - picture which causes the problem, it is simple said the IMAGEBAM script software around this picture depiction.

I don't think Imagebam has changed their scripts, which I believe are ad-related. It seemed to be a change in Avast's definition files that are constantly updated, and for good reason, within all anti-virus products. Avast appears to be looking for raw strings of characters of JavaScript & HTML code, that they believe to be indicative of a virus. This raw string "match" which Avast found within an Imagebam page caused a virus warning to appear, even though it allowed the page to continue to load. I wish I had saved the offensive code, because I think one of the warnings was just for some HTML. Each warning (I received 3-4 warnings for each page) contained a snippet of code of around 20-50 characters in length. Not only was it technically bad to allow the jpg to load, it also neither allowed the user to tell Avast to ignore the problem or white list the code, nor did it allow the user to report this as a false positive.

So, Avast failed four times: warned on a false positive, allow the page to load under 3-4 separate pop-up warnings, didn't allow the user to ignore the error, and didn't allow the user to report a false positive.

So, I got rid of Avast, but I'll be watching for resolutions. However, this was a pretty bad failure on the part of Avast.

(wait for it)... the malware that Imagebam had dumped on my PC. Sounds like Avast was doing it's job if you ask me. I get very few false positives with Avast. Been using it for years and haven't gotten a single infection that wasn't a result of bypassing it.

The real problem is these garbage file hosts.
Can you give more details as to what MBAM found? Also, do you have an ad blocker add-on running?

This is so this malware can be cross-checked against the databases of all of the other anti-virus products, which have allowed Imagebam pages, so that the other products can add this to their database as well.

BTW, a full disabling is a very bad idea; you're better off just white listing certain sites within your AV product (though this has difficulties as well). Since you performed a full disable on Avast, it cannot be verified through a controlled test that your malware was added by Imagebam.

Yes, thanks mates. Seems it might have been avasts update gave a false positive. Has worked well in the past. I turned the website monitor off and then on again and imagebam came up normal. I noted that others online same day said they had the same issues. Thanks all for input on this. It was bloody irritating indeed not accessing the site.

AVAST will investigate the problem from the source.

They will unblock the source temporarily in a few minutes.

This issue is discussed in the last few pages of this thread.

Avast have acknowledged the problem (post by HonzaZ, reply #7) and are working on a fix.
