How did things get to this point anyway? I am seeing petty extremism on both sides, this is not how a rational government is supposed to be run.

We ought to pitch all the bastards out, liberal AND conservative, and start over from scratch.
Preferably, accompanied by hanging some from lampposts and burning a few at the stake. This ought to inspire their replacements to do a better job. As a longtime Democratic voter I volunteer to choose the Democrats to be purged.

I've read that people who work for the government won't get paid during this shutdown. Does that include all those senators and politicians? (i'm guessing no)

The President and Congress continues to get paid. So does Social Security and other programs. Here's a link.

By constitutional law he cannot decline the salary so he will continue to be paid. He says he's donating most of the salary but other than the NPS donation, there are no other records of where the money is supposed to go.

This sounds like most of his "charitable contributions." Why is there all this funny business around Trump and money?

You don't suppose it is all going into some accounts in Cyprus, Switzerland, or the Cayman Islands do you?

Just to be clear Schumer, Pelosi, Feinstein, and Maxine Waters are on my list, but Republicans need to include McConnell, Paul Ryan, and Rand Paul. Ted Cruz is your call.

Default Those evil Republicans

How the Senate voted:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...-shutdown.html

"Senate Democrats blocked a spending bill on Friday night that would have prevented a government shutdown. The procedural motion to advance the bill needed 60 votes to pass."
