Drinking Tonight?

@Everyone: Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge of alcoholic beverages (wine, beer, and mixed drinks) with humble old me, who isn't quite the oenophile nor hard-drinking Cincinnati guy, even though we have a lot of breweries and the largest Oktoberfest outside Munich.

Now my doctor and dietitian, leading up to bariatric surgery, have done the unthinkable: Ordered me to give up alcohol, fruit juice, and soda in 30 days. Impossible to do?

I have already kicked the bottle; I can have Powerade Zero and/or Jumex fruit nectars as far as I know; but I'm down from 8 cans of soda a day to 4, so I'm making progress.

If I were AC/DC, I'd tell everyone to have a drink on me. )

From experiance I can say that you will feel better quickly as you give up the pop (soda). I used to drink quite a lot of it and since I cut it out of my diet to a large extent I find my afternoon dozeyness has dropped away.

Nothing wrong with a glass of wine after dinner. It's good for you. But eight cans of soda a day is too much. I like softdrinks myself but never more than two cans a day and it's always the sugarfree stuff. As for fruit juice, I've ditched it totally.

I was a heavy smoker up until three years ago. Two packs a day was the standard for me. I just had enough of it one day and threy my last pack away. There was no "making progress" or "cutting it down" in my case. You either do it or you don't.

We're all different in our habits and weaknesses but be reasonable and listen to your doctor.

It's not impossible, but it is gonna suck in the beginning

You can either go hardcore and drink only mineral water, but it might be easier to look for alternatives like carbonated water (i hope that is not included in the soda category) can be an alternative to beers and most soda's, you still have that fuzz. Drink it with ice.

As a kid i succesfully switched from lemonades to carbonated water (and in a later stage to mineral water) and it went rather smooth.

Today's drink is from Czechoslovakia: Samson 1795 Dark Original Czech Lager. A dark brown color with a copper hue makes a light brown head that just lasts and lasts. Alcohol content 4.5%. Tastes of caramel, molasses, toffee, and chocolate, but taste does not linger long. Just good overall.
