Default Longing for the old days ?

Hi guys,

since I'm in kinda nostalgic mood,
I wanted to ask you if you would rather live in the 60s/70s ?

I'm not sure for myself. I like alot about those times,
like the music, movies (including porn), the cars etc.
When I see movies or listen to the music (watched the Woodstock movie recently)
I get a feeling that I was born too late (1980).

What about you guys, do you feel comfortable in the here and now ?

I'm not much for that time frame, but I get your point.I'd love to have grown up in the 30's through the 50's. People seemed different then. They acted with more dignity, many styles of music were just being born, jobs plentiful, and it was before the two things that are ripping the world apart; the nasty political scene based on hatred, and the technological revolution.never in history has man so easily communicated, and been so withdrawn from each other at the same time.

Well, I had a ball in the 70's. Out of College, single, good job, good parties. No fear of AIDS, I guess it all sums up to Young and Dumb and living for the moment as at that time i did not think i would live to be thirty and really did not care if i did.

This will no doubt spring a few memories for all the Brits on here ... and maybe for a few other nationalities as well ....

Close your eyes and go back in time.....

To a time before the Internet.....

Before SEGA, Playstation or Super Nintendo.......

Way back .............

Im talking about Hide and Seek in the park!!!

The corner shop.

Jam Roly Poly!!!! Yummmy!!

Butterscotch

Hopscotch

Skipping

Handstands

Football with an old can

Fingerbobs

Beano, Dandy, Buster, Twinkle, and Dennis the Menace

Hula Hoops, jumping the stream, building dams. The smell of the sun and fresh cut grass

Bazooka Joe bubble gum

99 ice cream with a flake, or a screwball on a warm summer afternoon from a van that plays a tune.

Saturday morning pictures. Childrens Film Foundation, The Double Deckers, Red Hand Gang

Why Dont you?? during the school holidays, Saturday Scene, Our Show, Tiswas, The Saturday Banana, Chris Tarrant, Sally James, Brian Cant, Tony Arthur, Keith Chegwin, Noel Edmonds

The Tomorrow People, Doctor Who, RentaGhost, Its Friday...Its 5 O'Clock..... Its Crackerjack

When around the corner seemed far away and going into town seemed like going somewhere!!

Earwigs, wasps, stinging nettles and bee stings.

Sticky fingers!!

Playing Marbles, Ball bearings. Big 'uns and Little uns'

Cops and Robbers, Cowboys and Indians, and Zorro.

Climbing trees.

Making igloos out of snow banks

Walking to school, no matter what the weather.

Running till you were out of breath, laughing so hard that your stomach hurt.

Jumping on the bed Pillow fights.

Spinning around on roundabouts, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles.

Being tired from playing ..... remember that??

The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.

Water balloons were the ultimate weapon

Football cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.

Choppers and Grifters.

Eating raw jelly. Orange squash ice pops. Vimto and Jubbly lollies

Remember when......

You could see sparrows in London on a daily basis

There were two types of trainers..... girls and boys, and Dunlop Green Flash..... and the only time you wore them at School was for PE and they called them gym shoes or if you are older plimsolls!!!!

You knew everyone in your street.... and so did your parents.

It wasnt odd to have two or three 'best' friends

You didnt sleep a wink on Christmas Eve

When nobody owned a pure bred dog

When 25p was a decent pocket money

or even 5/-

Curly Wurlys, Space Dust, Toffo's, Top Trumps, Fizz Bombs, Gob Stoppers, Nutty, Ice Breaker, Mint Cracknell, Finger of Fudge, Happy Faces Ice lollies, Jubblies, Jammie Dodgers.

When a Mars a day helped you work rest and play, and NOBODY questioned it!!!

When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny

When nearly everyone's mum was at home when the kids got there

When any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him or use him to carry groceries and nobody not even the kid, thought a thing of it!!!

When being sent to the head's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited a misbehaving pupil at home.

Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs etc. Parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat and some of us are still afraid of them.

Didnt that feel good?? Just to go back and say, Yeah, I remember that!!!

Remember when.....

Important decisions in the plyaground were made by going Ip Dip Dog..
Or even Ip dip sky blue who's IT not you

Or even Ip dip dog sh*t you are not IT...

or even I went to the inky pinky garden

or even one potato two potato three potato four

or even Ippa dippa dation my operation

Race issues meant arguing about who ran the fastest

Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in Monopoly

The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was germs

and the worst thing in your day was having to sit next to one

Kiss chase!!

There was actually a game called "HEE" and when you were touched you were "IT"

It was unbelievable that British Bulldog 123 wasnt an Olympic event

Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a catapult

Nobody was prettier than mum

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better

Ice cream was considered a basic food group

Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true

Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest protectors

If you can remember most or all of these

THEN YOU CAN HONESTLY SAY YOU HAVE LIVED

A lot of the appeal of the 60s and 70s was simply that things hadn't gotten so bad yet. The trends were already there - constant immigration, population growth, inflation, and the destruction of the good. By which I mean open land, notable buildings, streetcar systems, railways and railway stations, on and on.
Depressing, isn't it?

I would like to have been around in the 1950s (I was born in 1961). It was the decade of 'you've never had it so good' and the UK was getting back on it's feet after WW2. There was full employment and everything seemed to have a reassuring order with confidence abound.

I've spoken to people who were around in this period and there have been varying stories - some positive, some negative.

I was born in 1973, so post 60's and entirely too young to actually experience the 70's. I enjoyed growing up in the 80's and feel that I am likely a man of my times. There is some appeal to the thought of living through some of the decades prior to my birth, but the major sticking point for me is that there was entirely too much ABBA and BeeGee's in the 70's. Just sayin'.
