I like The Rename Program. It's portable and simple.

One valuable tip if you using an image downloader whilst grabbing pics with gobbledegook filenames is to set you image downloader to download only one image at a time. That way I can use ACDSee to sort the images by date, which will put them into their correct order, and then rename them correctly before switching back to sorting by name.

Default my favorite

I've been using rname-it.exe for many years. Purpose built for renaming or modifying file names. Extremely flexible and easy as pie to use. Never seen a better one. A free download but you'll have to google it up. -Highly- recommended.

Have a good one !

FreeCommander is a good program, available in portable format from portableapps.com (you don't have to do a full installation into Windows). I use it all of the time for renames to add numbers, file properties, remove strings of characters from the name, etc. There's just a huge number of options.

for those on the Mac, Name Mangler gets my highest recommendation. It costs a few dollars, but its worth it.

If the pictres were in any order before they ar enot afterwards.
AcdSee, Total Comander, Irfan View are the tools of choice here,
because you can say Select all, Rename Series , Marylinn #### ,
Whta gives you Marylinn 0001,0002.....9999 in totally perfect order.
you DO know that you can order the files within a folder any way you'd
like right? lol Try right clicking within a folder sometime, and clicking on
"sort by". When you rename the files, they're be in the EXact order,
that they're in when you highlight them.

Might as well add my fave renaming tool, which is extremely powerful and flexible: Flexible Renamer version 8.4, which can be found here for free:

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA014...lish/FlexRena/

I've tried quite a few and am quite pleased with it - discarded all the others I tried.

PS - One feature I think all good renamers should have: Filename lists before & after the renaming would be done using your specifications so you can see if it'll do what you want before actually renaming the files.
