There is currently a three part documentary on CP on DR2 in Denmark, CCC was involved in that as well, as we know.

This series has a lot of info on Rodox/Theanders.
I havent seen it yet, but will soon.

If you are talking about "Candy Film - da børneporno var lovlig" on DR2 it should be a goldmine of informations about CCC/Rodox/Theanders.

So far I have watched in streaming the first of the 3 parts (running time approx 40 minutes each one) and it has lots of contribuitions from former workers, actors, competitor pornographers and even from the Theanders themselves from rare archive footage.

Unfortunately it's entirely in danish (subtitles are in danish as well) so I haven't understood almost anything...

I believe this is a great documentary for people interested in the history of danish pornography and/or CCC. If someone could record it that would be great. If in the future some danish speaking VEF user could translate it in english in order for english subtitles to be added that would be priceless.

I do plan to recap the most interesting bits of it, but you do overrate the value of the information.
Most of this is known from before.
There's some funny trivia, but former staff mostly denies any involvment in CP, ie they haven't seen any.

I can sum up episode one later today for you guys, I won't go into episode two since it's about CP and that is a very unpopular subject around here.

Yes, I didn't realize what the program was going to be focused on, actually I didn't even know what the abbreviation CP stood for...
Episode 2 has been a big disappointment for me, too bad that CCC is mostly remembered for its infamous CP or bestiality loops which are only a very very small part of their huge catalog.

Anyway the first episode is CP free and worth watching, thanks for offering to sum it.

YOu're right it is a very small part of their output, but I do not agree this is what they're most known for these days. The importance of CCC is indisputable. Just check the Vintage cumshot thread here on VeF, there's so many pics that origins from CC-material.
Their loops are still famous and sought after and if you check other forums you'll see CC are well represented all over.

I have read a lot of the same material as the makers of this documentary and unfortunately it is not possible to hide the fact of what they did.
There's way more to it than comes up in this three-part series, nuances, who meant what, etc etc.
Although Jens is clearly lying in the 1979 interview (program 2) it is to easy to say that he approved of the material. There are stuff that suggests otherwise. Karin the filmcutter also states that Jens had a clear view on this subject in the 70s.

Next post will be a resume of the episode, hope it's appreciated.

Notes:
There are a lot of black/white footage. Almost all of it is from Gabriel Axels movie Det Kære Legetøj.
there are quite some footage not related to CCC, they are used as visual descriptions.

Also; I am very tired and therefore my english is not at it's best right now, but I've promised this and here it is:


"As producer and business man I would say that my main motivation to do porn is the money.
Compared to other types of business I would say this is quite harmless" - Peter Theander.

This quote from Gabriel Axel's 1968 movie "Det Kære Legetøj" opens the program and is also repeated throughout the episode.

The first minutes is journalist Thomas Heulin's trying to get hold of Peter Theander. First, one from Peters staff very politely turns him down (on behalf of Peter ofcourse) and then he writes a letter urging Peter to take part in the documentary.

It continues with a brief discussion on Theander-brothers denial with any involment in CP-production with the author of the book "Dansk Porno".
Thomas Heulin is suggested to make contact with Ole Ege, Danish porn-pioneer.
(He is covered elsewhere on this forum as far as I know)

Ole Ege shows us some very early nude photos, for instance explaining that you could just barely see a hint of the crack(in one of the photos). If the crack was shown it would've been confiscated. We're then told a bit on how the Police worked in the mid 60s. (especially one Police Lawyer was notorious on chasing porn, he downright hated it)

(During Ole Ege's talk on police in the 60s we're shown several scenes from "Det Kære Legetøj".)

First interesting bit, although already known.
In 1967 there's a huge police campaign with the sole goal to kill production (and sale) of pornographic material.
It's very succesful and it more or less cleans Copenhagen for porn.
It's in this vacuum Theanders enters the scene and starts to build their empire. The Rådhus Antikvariatet was basically an adult bookstore, we're shown some interior shots of the shop (also from "Det Kære Legetøj").
Ole Ege says that Theanders obviously did this for the money. They happened to be at the right place at the right time. This made it possible for them to steal the market. The public opinion in Denmark was not into censorship and therefore Denmark had the customers, but after the raid not the goods.
Theanders did something with this.

First Jens quote. He appears a bit nervous, not yet used to handle the media.
I'm not sure what the question is, but from Jens answer it is probably something like "why did you [guys] arrange the Copenhagen Sex-Fair [in 1969]"

Jens: "First of all to celebrate the liberation of Porn. Also to show the average consumer who might have the wrong impression about Porn, to show that the producers, retaillers and resellers in fact are just ordinary people that does porn as if it were any other business"

Nils Vest made a documentary called Sex En Gros in 1970, wanting to capture a moment in time (autumn 1970).
Theanders were the most helpful towards me when I contacted them, he states.

Then we can see Peter Theander proudly (to put it mildly) explain and show off their mail-order department, showing of advanced machinery for adressing and stamping envelopes (6000 an hour).
He also flips through their latest CC (no39 - Nov1970) and then explains the variation in the publications, holding up one magazine saying "this is a mag with SS-uniforms, it sells well in the USA" ( :-) )

The porn-model active 66-69 tells about a shoot in (maybe) Rodosvej, they were two couples and she describes the 'studio' as humid/sweaty.
[note, this might as well mean that the mood was a bit weird, slightly uncomfortable]
(This model did not do many CC sessions, she mostly worked for Ole Ege/Leo Madsen - my comment)

Nils Vest then explains that at the shoot he attended (shown in the documentary) both Jens and Peter were present. Peter in suit, commanding the models "as a sergeant". Jens without his shirt on. Jens supposedly took of his shirt when the shoot started to make the models relax more.
Nils Vest suggests (with a smile) that Jens would've been the one of the two who got most physical enjoyment out of the job.

The model then tells how he turned down the photographer after a shoot and later got to know she'd earned herself the nickname "the VIrginal Porn-modell".

Then there's a lengthy segment were Ole Ege talks about his own moral vs Theanders (Ege left porn in 1972) and an interview with a reseller, been in the business since 1967. The documentary are now focusing towards CP.

Kurt, the logistic-guy is hard to understand (i'm not Danish) but he says that he had no problem doing his job, he was not a producer. It was just a sales-company with a product that needed moving, and that's what he did.
He also shows us some furniture (or remains of) that had it's origin from Balders Gate (Candy Film). But not because he's collecting, he bought or nicked it as second hand stuff. (He used to pick up props no longer in use from Balders Gate)

Susan and Martin worked at Rodox 1971-1984 as film technicians. Her starting salary (her contract shows) is 14 dkr an hour.
They tell how Rodox was a great place to work, they did their job mostly without being exposed to porn and Peter as a boss was very into the staffs well-being. He cared about their health and provided food and also at Strandlodsvej there was a badminton-court in half of an available wares-area.

The staff interviewed states their lack of interest in porn itself and also denies that they ever saw any CP.
Also they say that porn rarely was discussed at work.

Jens quote two:

Interviewer: Jens Theander, you're some sort of a king in the fairy-tale world of porn. Are there still money to be made on porn?
Jens: I would believe so, we've just moved to new facilities (Baldersgt, Candy FIlm). We've used two million Dkr to make sure we still would be able to produce pornography.

Kurt the logistic guy then tells how they were able to get furniture and props, laughingly telling that noone ever wanted the beds (although they always were of best quality, so they would be worth taking). The props he picked up was almost always put outside the gate, It was always dark on the inside of Baldersgt.

Karin the filmcutter, a lot of what they discuss is where in the building they are. My office are there, Jens over there, here we are in the kitchen.(*)
She also says that she never saw any CP and that she would not believe Jens to be involved in any production of such. Jens supposedly had views that would conflict with this, according to Karin. She also says that Jens was a more loose boss than Peter.
She's asked what if, for instance, they were late and she jokingly says that Jens would accept that if the reason was 'if we've been drunk'.
She says Jens and Peter was very different (Peter being the more traditional boss) and now we're first touching lightly the subject about the fact the brothers didn't agree.

The most interesting bit (although this is also known from elsewhere) comes from an anynomous person working under Peter.

Jens and Peter were very different and CandyFilm and CCC-headquarter being separate was done for this reason.
(Strandlodsvej and Baldersgate are not situated close to eachother). Jens and Peter had different ideas on everything and a lot of conflicts arose from this. He describes Peters office as a nice one and explains that Peter came out of his office 2pm'ish to participate in the choosing of pictures etc for the publications. Peter had a very good sense of what was good material.
[He was also involved in planning, manuscript etc
(Peter was in other words closely involved in most parts of the editorial work). this is known from elsewhere. my own comment]

Kurt the Logistic guy then tells of an incident where CP had been spotted among staff and that they didn't like it. Peter came while they were discussing this and he said he also didn't like it. Kurt was a few days later ordered to take this huge shipment of CP-material and deliver it for destruction. Kurt can therefore not understand that Peter in any way would've been interested in earning money on this.
The last minutes tells otherwise when the documentary shifts its focus onto Tate, who has written a very comprehensive book on the subject CP and he in his work had found a lot of evidence that would prove Kurt wrong.

This is end of part one. I will not make resume of the last two episodes since its focusing on other things than CC history.

Nothing new in this really, but it's fun to see all the unknown footage. Some anectdotes and trivia unknown though :-)

(*)The reason they're interested in what was were inside Baldersgate is the fact that the production-company producing this documentary is situated in this very same building.
When Thomas Heulin discovers the history of his offices he gets interested in Candys story and that's where it all started when it comes to this documentary.
