Sorry Horrible thought
See the photos of her as a young woman and the thought is not so horrible. Mind if you were caught thinking it, there'd be a nice cold room in the Tower for you.

The Queen in 1948.

Big boobs, high heels, thin waist, she could have made the Mayfair's front cover.

I don't know... your Monarchs are quite tolerant.
Do you remember that according to Joanne Latham in Mayfair, she had a story with a member of the Royal family?
So why not the Queen?

Does the Queen has a lover today?
If not, that could be a good option.

Default I'm curious

I'm wondering whether something is world-wide, or just an American thing. In a famous 1915 speech, then-President Teddy Roosevelt declared "There is no such thing as a hyphenated American.."

Over one hundred years later, there's a sizable portion of the black population that insist on referring to themselves as "African-American". They're not alone, we have many different hyphenated Americans.

Is that the case in Britain? Do members of the black community insist that others refer to them as "African-Britons"? Something similar?

Simply put no!

There are some people who claim to be afro Caribbean, and there was in the days of the Raj a genuine group called Anglo Indians, mixed parents and they were registered as such, but few would claim to be anything but British! We do find it rather amusing when US folk claim to be ???American, why bother? Did they see a photo of it once or something? Divisive surely!

I've noticed that the ethnic origin is still quite important to many Americans. By reading Wikipedia articles, I've noticed how important it is to mention that this or that person is Irish-American, Italian-American, Polish-American, Jewish-American etc.

Reminds me somehow of the scene in The Godfather when Michael Corleone reveals to his brothers that he volunteered to serve in the US Army. Sonny gets furios, saying something like "you don't risk your life for people who're not your blood".

Is indeed for the proles, or worse than that -- that was the reputation. "Pool halls" in the States had a notorious reputation, when criminals were out on parole/probation, the terms of the parole often banned them from pool halls, where they might meet up with the rest of the "criminal element".

There have been some notorious criminal stories over the years that lived up to that reputation-- a famous Rhode Island rape case of a woman in a bar on pool table comes to mind-- but today its hard to find a pool hall that's anything other than yuppies.

So keeping it Brit: was there an equivalent place in British life? Someplace where the lowlifes and crims found each other?
