Firefox - Version 57.0 and later, Your experiences, Issues & Recommendations
I just updated to Firefox 57.0 naively.
On the positive side: The promised improved speed is obviously noticeable (surfing on VEF at least). On the negative side: Favourite add-ons vanished without prior notice, I'm missing especially add-ons like NoScript. Does anybody know of an equivalent compensation? PS: I just noticed an option "Show extensions of the old add-on type" (translated from German). If you click on that link you'll get a list of your old add-ons and the option "find compensation". I didn't test that yet though.

Actually the increase in speed might be because your add-ons are deleted (or disabled). I noticed the speed was faster here but later noted that the McAfee Web Advisor is disabled since it doesn't work with 57.0.

I thought the change over was 14/11/17 then I read 28/11/17 which also included legacy add-ons would not be fully gone until firefox 58 or 59 - what the truth is , is anyones guess
No script from what i've read should work on firefox 57 Plenty of other alternatives but alas you'll find a lot of add-ons will simply be gone because they werent popular enough or developers have no interest in continuing The upgrade to 57 and web extensions replacing add-ons is meant to stop improvements to the browser disabling any add-ons / web extensions which has caused plenty of users to abandon them. RapidRelease/Calendar https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar Firefox 57 release overview https://www.ghacks.net/2017/11/13/fi...ease-overview/ This browser is probably the closest to firefox but without all the baggage Has many of the same add-ons like no script www.palemoon.org has a list of compatible / forked or Known Incompatible Add-ons. https://addons.palemoon.org/ Image host grabber direct link https://imagehostgrabber.com/download.html other developers have gone to https://www.seamonkey-project.org/ This might be useful FEBE by Chuck_Baker FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/ Last edited by buttsie; November 24th, 2017 at 07:33 PM.. I'm planning on splitting my browsing once I upgrade to FF 57; it's pretty pathetic since I'm already having to do so much browsing on Opera & Chromium now because so many websites are broken on FF, and I don't expect them fixed, even with the Quantum wheel-spinning.
My side add-ons like Scrapbook & Firebug are still working over on Waterfox (although not PaleMoon, which has collapsed in terms of add-on support), a fork which will hopefully support add-ons well into the future. https://www.waterfoxproject.org/downloads Also, the Extended Support Release of Firefox will support add-ons for several more months (though looking into the development version isn't a bad idea, depending on the add-ons in use). https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo...nizations/all/ I don't know what the status of really good add-ons like GreaseMonkey will be, long-term, however. |

Greasemonkey released a new totally re-written version that supports the new standard. Unfortunately, the new version broke scripts that I use with it so I had to roll back to v56.

Quantum arrived today and I do think it is genuinely a bit faster. I still have functional Adblock Plus and Flash downloader, but I can't find an upper icon that shows the downloading status box and there's no longer an indication on the tool bar of when a download is complete. The box is still there and can be accessed via Tools-Downloads, or via a History icon, but this important feature seems to have been taken away from easy access. The new Firefox browser is okay, but some of the changes simply seem cosmetic and I still wish Mozilla hadn't changed the colour of Bookmark folders not long ago.
As things stand, I may go back to Pale Moon (or run it alongside), if the add-on support is any better than before. I think this was the reason why I quit. Unfortunately, I haven't got on too well with Chrome in the past so that's unlikely to be a substitute. Okay, slight revision. I have just located the download progress link in another place! 56.0.2
Download a copy of 56.0.2 while you can.
This is the x64 English (US) version. To find other versions, go back up into the folder tree. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/...2/win64/en-US/ Don't forget to disable automatic updates in Tools -> Options.
