Default Quest for the Presidency (2020 Edition)

Might as well get started.

Will Trump be a one term president? Cutting taxes for the rich, greatly increasing the deficit, but most especially, defaulting on our debt will have catastrophic global consequences. Ending Obamacare and cutting Medicaid, food stamps and subsidized housing will make life much harder for the poor, most especially, senior citizens. So there is a sizable group who will be angry during the next cycle. Persecution of immigrants seems to alienate the Latino voters. A recession is guaranteed in the next administration. If Trump is lucky it will start next year and the country will bounce back during 2019 and 2020. he can then blame Obama for the recession and take credit for the recovery. Will he even want to run at the age of 73?

Who will the Democrats turn to? Where is their next generation of leaders coming from? Elizabeth Warren is 67 and has denied any interest in the presidency. Does she have an apprentice? If people are suffering in 2020, and I believe that the country will be in worse shape then, a populist firebrand will receive a lot of votes.

One thing that really bothers me is the decided tilt towards right-wing nationalist parties throughout the globe. The spirit of cooperation and vision of a united, peaceful world are rapidly fading. It has been 71 years since the last global war ended. Given our species bellicose history and preference for mass murder as a method of population control, one must anticipate that the slide into global war has already begun.

"One thing that really bothers me is the decided tilt towards right-wing nationalist parties throughout the globe. "

Funny that the thing that bothers most of us is how far the democrat party has swung to the extreme left. If they ever want to win anther election in my lifetime they'd best reject the Warrens and Sanders goofballs and move closer to the middle.

As far as a possible coming recession, Obama owns that one.

With how crazy this one went; if it goes the distance; then my money is on Michelle Obama being the first woman POTUS, as well as first wife of a previous POTUS to serve a term herself. She's both intelligent & honest enough to stand in my considered opinion...

Most economists believe the recessions are a function of the business cycle and the government can do little to influence them. Unfortunately, part of Keynes' theories were adopted. Political reality stands in the way of accumulating surpluses in boom times.

Sanders isn't really a Democrat. He is a socialist who always ran as an independent and only changed his affiliation when he decided to run for the presidency. Don't you think that Elizabeth Warren is making valid points about the systematic destruction of the middle class? I mean, I worked for banks and can assure you that they are tools of, by and for the wealthy. I sometimes feel like she is the only person who has our backs.

Of course the Democrats have their left wing lunatic fringe. Just as the Republicans have their right wing lunatic fringe. I mean, I live in Oakland, California and deal with a truly left wing common view every day. But who is speaking for the vast group of moderates in the middle ground? How do we move beyond ideological polarization and arrive at a workable consensus? 44% of voting age citizens did not vote. We can assume that much of the country does not feel their views are being represented.

By the way, you do know that Clinton won the popular vote with a significant portion of absentee ballots in California yet to be counted, don't you? So it is not like Trump has a big mandate. It must also be noted that California, New York, and Washington with their large immigrant populations and economies that interact with foreign markets are heavily Democratic. I also spent many years doing international accounting for biotech, high tech and transportation firms. I can assure you that all human beings are much more alike than different. Each nationality does have its little quirks, too.

You must be on your deathbed and if so I will be praying for you. Her biggest mistake was running towards the middle, in a polerized electorate. The next Democratic President will be a true progressive. Progressives looked at her and the party the same way they saw Bush 41 in 92'.This election can be a nice learning experience, it is just a question of having the right take aways...

You see, this is what you get when you ditch Her Majesty, Queen Liz (Gawd Bless her!).
We've been able to adjust (and she has ) over the years, so right now the UK is a nice Republican Country with an un-elected President-for-Life who knows exactly what to do.
Forget about Presidential elections, choose someone suitable and elevate them to become King or Queen of the USA (Gawd Bless it!) for life .
King Obama the first.....hmmm
Queen Angelina...

While I heartily disagree with all the PC silliness and excess attention being devoted to the tiny fraction of the population (0.3%) that is transgender, a few things should be pointed out. 1)Trump lost the popular vote 2) In general, the states that Clinton carried contribute more to the Federal budget than they receive back. Four "blue" states (California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York) combine to contribute $1.4 trillion more in federal taxes than they receive back. Ohio is the only major "red" state in that category. Most "red" states are dependent on federal spending and will be most hurt by Trump's proposed cuts. 3) White women voted 53% to 47% for Trump with the most common reason given as they "don't like her."

Some talking head made a comment that Sarah Palin was being considered for a high level position in the Trump Administration. Made me gag on my drink.

If that idiot gets any power, the 2020 election will not be close.

This little article on the climate of illinois should help clear things up. You know it snows there, right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Illinois

Also, savage560 lives in Chicagoland with its population of 9.8 million people, which is rather more than you are used to, I gather.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_metropolitan_area

Finally, there are sites that feature pictures of Walmart customers so you can get an idea of what your new neighbors will look like.

Well, my first response got censored. Someone did not like animal analogies.

Let me put it this way: Please, American voters, no more evil clown pranks!
