Default Franz & Polina (2006)

Russia - Drama

"Franz + Polina is a 2006 Russian romantic drama film set in 1943 in occupied Byelorussia. It tells the story of Franz, an SS soldier who deserts, and Polina, a Byelorussian woman whose village is massacred. The film received several accolades, including the 2007 FIPA D'Or Grand Prize"

This is a sad story. That's all I can say

IMDB gives it 7,2

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0899242/

The movie has a wiki page. The description above comes from it

Watching this right now,Out of desperation more than anything else.So far so derivative,We've already had the Kurgan from Highlander,Roman legionaries and even Hurons from The Last of the Mohicans..But so far no James Earl Jones in a ridiculous wig..Jason Momoa may lack Arnie's monolithic quality but He is as least as good in the role.

Last week, I found a complete copy of Outlander (2008) on YouTube. The quality was actually a little better than VHS and it looked and sounded much better than expected on my HD TV.

This is a well made semi-sci-fi and ancient Viking warrior battling monsters type film, starring Jim Cavizel (Person of Interest), Sophia Myles (David Tennant's ex-girlfriend) and John Hurt - who's done just about everything.

It has the look of a few other films, but is a reasonably good for a late night watch.

I'd say about 6/10 and worth downloading.

Or a weekend matinee. I gave it the same rating when I saw it during its original release. A great concept (in general) that I wish was attempted and explored more often.

Default Plennyy / Captive (2008)

Russia - Drama

"The story of a young Chechen and his Russian captor during their civil war"

This has a short runtime for a Russian movie (80 minutes) but it looks interesting. Starting to view

IMDB gives it 6,3

Non-Stop (2014)

A thriller that does it right by keeping the audience guessing. Taut action, no stupid characters, and a few good laughs thrown in. A rollicking good time! Neeson scores again. 8/10

Non-start

The Lost Episode (2012) aka "Pennhurst"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1720189/

A really odd movie that mixes up several strands and suffers accordingly.
A group of students visit an abandoned asylum and one proceeds to tell of a reality TV ghost hunting crew that visited the asylum the previous year and vanished.
The scenes with the TV crew make up the bulk of the movie but it keeps flashing forward to the present for more inane details from the idiot story teller.

I just finished watching this one, enjoyed it a great deal. I did wonder, though, what the British thought of Hathaway's accent - she seemed to do a good job to me, but then 'English' is not my mother (or father) tongue.

Anne Hathaway does a posh British accent quite plausibly; I didn't hear anything incongruous in it. The real test is to be able to sustain it for a long period and remain consistent in tone; continuity. Accents are a valuable acting skill and I think she has the skill.

The film borrows heavily from Miss Austen's novels and makes her character somewhat analagous to that of Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. It is not a film about Jane Austen, but merely a story about a woman called Jane Austen who ended up unmarried and writing novels. Even in the 1790s when wives were a luxury strictly reserved for men who could afford to support one, I have my doubts that someone who looked as good as Ann Hathaway looks and has the sheer class of her character would have never found love, even though she felt unable to run off with her first choice. Many people who settle for second best end up thanking their lucky stars they chose right, and I think someone as extremely pretty as Ann Hathaway is in this film would have had other opportunities.

Rear Window (1954)

Seeing one of Hitch's best was the perfect way to augment Oscar day. Amazing how this simple story effortlessly flows and involves. And what a vision that Grace Kelly is. Probably my 3rd or 4th viewing, but the first time on the big screen. 10/10
