West Germany on porn movie addresses as a way to date films
I need some help from some German members or at least someone familiar with Germany.
I'm trying to date some of my DBM films and noticed that some of the covers say W. Germany. I'm assuming those movies were released in 1990 at the latest but on EGAFD they have dates of 1992 on some of those films. Were some companies still using W. Germany even after 1990? Examples: DBM - Dolly Buster - Casting 1 is listed as 1992 on EGAFD but the cover has the address of W. Germany. Is it from 1990 or is it later in spite of the W. Germany address?

After the reunion of west and east germany to only one germany in 1990, both parts of the country still used different four-digit postal codes with the same numbers.
Even for national letters, you have to use a special kind of pre-postal-code. West germany cities got W-1234 und the former GDR used O-1234. Not until the 01.july 1993 germany got a new five-digit post code system. So, between 1990 and 1993, many companies used the west germany also in international buisiness to point out, that they are located in ther former west germany. |

That's exactly the type of information I was looking for.
Thank you. Edit just to clarify: The first movie in the DBM - Dolly Buster series has an address of 4230 Wesel W.-Germany. Since it had a 4 digit code it means it was made before 1993. On Dolly Buster numbers 8-12 they have an address of 4230 Wessel Germany. They dropped the West from Germany but are still using a 4 digit code. So that's after 1990 but prior to 1993. On Dolly Buster 13 and afterwards they're using 46474 or 46485 Wesel Germany which means they were made in 1993 at the earliest since they have a five digit code. Is that correct?

Sounds correct, but please remember that ...
- West-Germany was mostly used before 1990 - not all people and companies used the W-1234 or O-1234 - the new 5-digit postal codes were public before 1993, so some companies used then on their products before they got offical. |
