I tried K2S to download some Japanese stuff. They throttle your download speed. Learned they've recently had their assets frozen by a bank; would expect them to be out of business shortly.

^Yes they did. The bank or banks block all their transactions and bank accounts, so K2S is gone very very soon!

Beware how you choose to pay a premium account at them (k2s.cc), my story: last summer I bought premium for 2 months from them, with my master card(they don't accept paypal, reseller don't either, bitcoin it still to much trouble for me),this was the only place I used this card, well, in last 3 weeks I discovered(I did it a couple days ago) that was 3 unauthorized transaction from that card, they take me a total of 60$(it is like 20% of my month income), I go to bank, discovered that was stolen from China(I am from EU, RO), from 3 different city, and the hassle began: make request at bank for stolen money, make request to block the card, make request to cancel the card, make request for a new card, wait at least 5 days for new card, god knows if I will recover my money(or part of it), go to police and make declaration, and now wait to see how much money I will get back...in one forum I was read, at the time I bought the premium, that to a guy was happened same story as mine, now I learned a lesson about gray market, and have a new card in few days, and, maybe, I will recover at least a part of my money...I think, that k2s sell the card info of former premium accounts if not used in last 1/2 year...

I have used free downloads on this site without any problems.

On occasion I have paid for a premium account.
If you have a premium account you need to remember to cancel your subscription or you will be charged as per your agreement (Once a mouth in advance, usually).

I use Chrome.

maybe i'm the odd one out but i've never had any problems with k2share for a long time. no throttling of speed even when downloading multiple huge files. no recur of subscription if u uncheck the clearly displayed box, no unauthroised transactions, etc. however, i only use them thru the cheap 3 days trial every so often.
