Everyone has their own taste, but it's odd that so much over-the-top, non-realistic porn is being produced. Do people prefer to masturbate to unrealistic scenes? This is a turnoff for me when compared to the more realistic scenes. I will get off to gagging or extreme, love-less, emotion-less sex, but it's not my ideal viewing.

It says alot about the current culture that, on ImageVenue's website when we view a pic there, the ads are consistently for "18 & Abused" with people being in the theme of tortured, gagging, assholes spread wide like vaginas (!!) and so on. It's quite off putting and I wish I wasn't exposed to that sort of porn when viewing images.

Just offering my total agreement. I think modern porn is the way it is partly because of cost. It's more expensive to write a simple story, more expensive to set up visually pleasing shots, to find a real set and light it properly, more time-consuming to get the girls turned on, etc., etc. And this race to the bottom isn't unique to porn. It exists in movies, publishing, television, and even things like architecture. Except for rare, highly celebrated exceptions in all these fields, the arc is inexorably downward, all for higher profit. What's more, I'm not a very old person and I can still see it just by comparing what was before to what is being made now. I think in principle, porn should be one of the most wonderful art forms humans produce. Too bad, really.

The more we see degrading images of women being brutalised in porn, the more we become desensitised to it and certain viewers want more extreme material.
Porn has always relied on the 'shock factor' but I truly believe that it's gone too far. I must admit I'm partial to a bit of hair pulling and bum slapping in porn but I do miss the days of storylines, where the sex shown seemed consentual and everybody appeared to have fun.

I agree. It's almost as if the intended market for this type of porn are not even watching it for sexual reasons. It's like they have a perverse need for brutality, power, demeaning acts, etc that is on a different level than their sexual desires. Agreed that it used to be about having fun.
