Microsoft OneNote I bought Office for Mac new the other day. Yep I use Outlook for email, and when I opened that OneNote, it had my MS ID there for posting notes into that get saved on One Drive I think. Actually had to use an old email account to get that to work, Outlook but have 2 accounts in it, make me wonder what else they keep spy on And, wildt I back my iPhones up once a week in iTunes itself, then transfer the whole iTunes folder to my back up portable drives, that saves it all anyway I think.

I had to contact Verizon Wireless just this morning to disconnect it on my new cellular phone. I understand some of the potential uses for the cloud but I have no use for it.

I have my own private network cloud and I can access the network remotely if I need to but definitely agree with those above not trusting third party cloud back-ups
Google keep saying I have 100GB of Cloud Storage 'free' awaiting me but why would I being of sound body and sound mind (some would argue ha ha !!) trust them to keep my files private and not take a sneaky peek at what's in there |

100GB sounds generous though, what's the catch?

Personally i hardly use 'the cloud', i do have some irreplacable music files backed up on Mega (as 3rd or 4th back up), and some more 'harmless' things that i wouldn't care if curious eyes saw it. Edit: as for oneDrive, it smelled fishy (or at least pushy) so i'm staying far away from it... |

I was hoping someone would post about something like this, 'purchasing/buying music from itunes or ebooks. You aren't buying, you are renting. According to the user agreement which you have to click on and agree to, you don't own ANY of the itunes files or pandora files or ANY music files that you have on your phone or computer or stored in the cloud or on your hard drive. Just like you don't own ANY of the books or magazine articles or whatever literature you have on your kindle or Amazon Fore or ipad or tablet or phone or in the cloud. Rather you are renting all of it and the companies have the right to delete it at any time for whatever reason and you can't do fuck all about it. This came up a couple of years ago when a particular ebook version of a book, it might have been To Kill A Mockingbird got yanked by Amazon for some reason, maybe publishing rights, and a couple thousand people went to read the next chapter of Scout and friends and it was gone. Digital media SUCKS. Physical media is AWESOME. Wow, just like sex. Virtual/digital sex SUCKS. Physical/literal sex is AWESOME. |

I could understand if hard drives were still mega expensive that people could be lured into 'free' storage ignoring what they are actually giving away by uploading their own data but for me I'm quite happy with my own NAS set-up and archival back-ups for the data I really care about should my NAS ever die |

I have mixed feelings on those 'targeted adverts', as i rarely respond to ads anyway, and if not targeted, there will still be ads, right? Though i think my adblocker does a good job as i don't get to see much ads at all... Quote:
Of course i keep my copies of those CBR files on a nice external hard disk |

I don't have this and I don't have that....
But, like others have said ~ if you want to keep it Safe ~ put it on a USB or Burn it to a DVD etc.....Hide it away .... Cloud is really Cloud... Defenceless Legally The DCMA will plough through them ! In Situ and on Clouds. Clouds are really for family snaps/videos etc ~ and are Open Sesame for the copywright hunters. imo |
