Some intresting points here. But if Scotland becaomes Independent again, who would the North Sea Oil/Gas belong to! is it in British waters or a newley independant nation Scotland. Implications are massive, if british government lost access to such wealth what would be the knock on effect!, higher taxes (again) more cuts.etc. Also I see the old chestnut of Government jobs, well that was done to save money in rents of expensive London/South East England premium sites. And of course marginal seats are allways eassily bought . I beleve that Cameron and Clegg must be prepared for Scotland to break away, the Conservatives are hated, no other word for it in Scotland. Now what about Wales, the Water Boards were privatised by Mrs T, now I beleve thats a Welsh asset and it should return to Wales if we ever got independance, aslo Welsh Regiments in the Uk forces are in Afghanistan, I for one would expect to see them withdrawn. No Uk will have some majour problems on many levels if Scotland dose become independant.

I say give them their independence, then in a few years time when they're begging to get back into the union, then we can discuss terms
They've played a good game, got themselves loads of advantages, time for it to change. |

Also please remember, we the Celtic nations of britain were not asked to join the Unioun, we were forced by conquest . Granted a long time ago but the word Welsh is Saxon for Forigner you were the invading foreigners if you want to be pedantic. as to leving the Unioun I beleve it could be inevitable, however I also beleve Scotland will not get the great deal Salmond is painting if it dose become independant. The days of EU funding infrastructure projects such as happened in The Irish Republic are long over.

Let them have full independance they already print their own money so lets say from 6th april 2013, just in time to pay for the commonwealth games they are hosting. Right that's that sorted out so what's next? ah yes the middles east, give me a minute and I'll have a crack at that |

As a general comment (not aimed at anyone on VEF because we're all civilised on here!) I do think there's sometimes a little bit of arrogance south of the border regarding anyone's ability to survive without England's help! Quite a few countries have sought independence from UK rule, an a lot of them are doing very nicely, thank you very much! With regard to companies in the UK, a couple of favourable tax breaks and Gretna Green will be invaded quicker than you can say "Oooh ... that'll do our profits a power of good!" |

For those that support independence, how far would you like it to go?
Would you want independent military, NHS, etc...? Would you be willing to pay higher taxes to support independence? I'm just curious because I have had similar discussions with neo-secessionists here in the USA. |

Scottish Independence?
If Scotland declares itself independent, how will Carlisle manage without its largest suburb?

SNP -jolly good Scottish folk wishing independence and self-rule.
Plaid Cymru - jolly good Welsh folk wishing independence and self-rule. English Nationalists - racist b*stards who eat babies and beat up little old ladies. or English Nationalists - jolly good English folk wishing independence and self-rule. Why does English nationalism scare the shit out of people? I'm proud to be English. Yes my nation has faults but so does every other nation. If you're going to take pot shots at my nation you can feck off. Note use of the word "feck". A luvverly Celtic version of the word fuck and slightly less offensive. |
