One of my favourite Club covers, and still in my collection from the day I brought it home as a bundle of nervous sexual energy.

I think I came over the cover, such was my fixation on it. Clare Cass was an absolute beaut.

That's a cracking cover shot isn't it- how could a man resist the lovely Claire in such a suggestive pose. Claire has had quite a few mentions in this thread, and deservedly so- without a doubt she was one of my favourite top-shelf magazine models of the late 90's.

Something I know we've mentioned before is the period in 1996/7 when Mayfair featured Claire every single month in a "Reader's Choice" shoot, with the theme and the outfit she was stripping out of supposedly decided by a reader's vote- As a man who has always enjoyed a bit of dressing-up and roleplay with my sexual partners, they couldn't have been aiming more squarely at my personal fetishes if they'd tried....

Although I don't think she was ever the main covergirl during that series of shoots, they were always mentioned on the cover, and whoever the main covergirl was, my eye was always drawn to the little pic of Claire in her latest costume at the side. I'm trying to remember how many of these shoots there were, I know we've already talked about Claire in a nurse's uniform and a wedding dress, but here's another- Claire playing airline stewardess in Vol 31 no 13,



Although I was buying Mayfair religiously every month at that time anyway (not least because I'd recently broken up with a girlfriend and wasn't getting any!), the sight of Claire flashing her stockingtops in that pic on the cover would certainly have added to my anticipation of the pleasures to come when I got that mag home- and the shoot certainly didn't disappoint. Needless to say Claire was the main focus of my first wank over that issue...

Just to add, they don't make covers like that any more.

All of which is bizarre, because you would think that with all of the new fangled technology photographers would be able to take many more shots, and lots of better examples to pick from. Instead, we get some rubbish where knickers have been photoshopped in (badly) or where stars or dots have been applied to nipples in an attempt to make the cover look more "edgy". (But arguably far less sexy, as stars plopped on after the event don't come close to a strategically positioned hand or sliver of cloth).

I do think that the guys behind he camera were much better than now, and that they knew how to take what would turn into a memorable cover shot. A photo that was sexy and sufficiently rude and arousing without breaking any rules or needing to use stars or dots.

The Claire Cass one is one of the most memorable, and it sticks in the mind. Another was a cover of MW with Evie Stewart on it, with her crotch and nipples covered in soap suds. I might go through my collection and take a few photos.

So much I could add, but I'll try to keep it short for now. I may have mentioned somewhere else, but I was 'somewhat' lucky enough to work in a small, local newsagents in my mid-teens during the 1980s. It was quite a small shop, with the counter about 10 feet away from the wall of mags and newspapers. The 'top shelf' was actually at floor-level, kept in the far corner. While most of the stock was your basic soft-porn (PB, PH, Mayfair, etc.) it was more than enough to keep my 15 year-old senses in a tizz, the fear of cracking a hard-on every few minutes palpable. What I found incredible was the soft smell that was attached to the porn mags themselves, as if all that female wonder was too much for the pages.

I say 'somewhat' lucky, because there were two major drawbacks. 1. The owners (a husband and wife) were friends with my mum, so any major lingering around the back corner would have got home pretty quick and 2. most of the mags were wrapped in plastic. So like many of you, it was the covers themselves that took on mythical importance on my journey for carnal delights.

When I started the job, the first cover that became an obsession was the US import of the latest Penthouse. Funnily enough, I didn't recognize the girl's face, but I could swear I had seen those fabulous tits before. The mag wasn't wrapped, but it took a couple of weeks before I could find a few minutes 'alone time' to examine more closely, only to discover one of the great disappointments in life - so many times, the cover-girl will not be featured inside.



But I took note of the girl's name - an obsession with Joanne was born.

I didn't see this cover on a top shelf, I saw it on a magazine carousel at the back of a newsagents I used to visit solely to shop-lift girly mags from in the early 80s when I was unemployed and skint for a while. No excuse, I know, but I was too skint to buy, never mind too skint to date, so this badly supervised newsagent with its wank mags on a carousel in a blind spot was too much of a temptation for me to resist.



As I mentioned in my Carol Heaps 'Escort' cover post earlier in this thread I'm very much a bum man and though I'm not a fan of bottle blondes, that cover with the model standing with her back to the viewer, leotard pulled up tight between the cheeks of her arse, the sunlight pouring over her while she stood legs akimbo with a hand on each of her ample pale buttocks just cried out to me "buy me!"

Or more accurately "Steal me!"

I would usually flick through girly mags before acquiring them but I slipped that one into my bag uninspected, looking forward to getting home and enjoying a very bottom-centric set.

I was very aware that the girl on the cover wasn't entirely to my taste and that the cover photo was a bit 'rough and ready' even for Rustler but there was also something appealingly casual about the cover photo. I'm guessing in hindsight that it was probably taken by Eric Wilkins, a photographer who had a gift for 'cheap and cheerful' but, as far as I can tell, little gift for the erotic beyond "show us your fanny, Love" and "Bend over and spread your bum, Love". That said, I'm not complaining, that would have done the job for me.

Back in the late 70s and early 80s I bought Rustler and the other G*S*P publications along with my favourite mags, 'Men Only', 'Club International' and 'Mayfair', because the G*S*P had an almost unique selling point in the UK - they were as genitally and anally explicit as the Sullivan magazines but didn't feel like Sullivan's cheap con-jobs which feaured very few colour photos and those of women who mostly looked like skanks.

Rustler and Rapier/Raider often published the stronger photos from sets that has earlier appeared in the likes of 'Mayfair' where the crotch shots had been airbrushed into shadow, so the cute girls I'd seen posing tastefully in the softer girlies would turn up in the likes of 'Rustler' with their ankles behind their ears, clunge on the pout and ringpiece on resplendent display.

Except the model on this particular Rustler cover was unknown to me.

But the promise of her spreading her bottom wide inside the mag was enough to make me take the magazine unopened.

So imagine my disappointment when I got the magazine home, stretched out on my bed, took out my little fella to give it some exercise and found the following set:

Yep, it was a version of the common problem with Girlie magazine covers, the cover featuring a girl in a pose that wasn't followed up in the set inside, (even worse was the girl on the cover who wasn't to be found anywhere inside the magazine).

As you'll notice above, not only did the set not contain the held-open bum shot the cover had implied, it contained little but nondescript frontal shots, two with the girl's leotard still covering her 'lady's treasure' and two unimaginative shots of her showing said cunt that were almost identical to one-another, one of which the editor clearly thought merited a centrespread.

So that was an 'eyes on stalks' cover that had no other part of me on stalk.

Back in the late 70s in the UK, as some of you might be old enough to remember, there was a brief time when the 'harder' sort-core girlie magazines made small excursions into hard-core. As I remember this was mostly vaginal penetration and vibrator insertion, with nothing as shocking as a cum-shot, but it was the hardest that had been on open sale in UK newsagents until then.

If you don't already know, the magazines that published them were largely the Sullivan and G*S*P stables of mags that had already pushed - opened? - the envelope of explicit fanny (UK) and fanny(US) poses in the year or two previously.

After a matter of a year or so, these hardcore sets stopped being published in these Girlies and that was the last I saw of fucking in porn until by accident in the early 80s I found a quiet little shop on Tib Street in what is now called the Northern Quarter of Central Manchester.

I went in the shop out of curiosity and inside found a bare white room with minimal white shelving and behind the bare white counter a guy I knew from the counter of a mainstream second-hand book shop on Manchester's Shude Hill. The second hand bookshop is there still so if you know the Manchester book and mag trade at all, 'plastic hands' should be enough to let you know who I mean.

On the minimal white shelving was a sparse selection of hard-core magazines, some american, some german but mostly from our alliterative friends from Copenhagen. All bagged up in clear plastic bags.

I can't remember every magazine on display but there were single copies of Climax, Blue Climax, Sex Bizarre, New Cunts, the even more bluntly-named CUNTS and a rather knocked-about copy of a magazine the cover of which very much more than all the others drew my eyes.

and I was sold.

The magazine wasn't cheap, I think £8, which was a lot of money in the early 80s, but it was cheaper than the rest of the stock and it was the best cover there.

When I got home I found perfectly acceptable hardcore photos inside, harder than I'd seen in my life up until that point, and I absolutely loved the way the lass on the cover was getting a load on her nose on the front cover and had a load over her eye on the back. Very shortly I was spurting my own sauce looking at her be-spunked face.

I don't know what I did with the rest of the mag but I still have the front and back covers and indeed used them to solve a 'Magazine Request' for a fellow VEF member a few years ago

So this particular "eyes on stalks" cover was the thing that converted me to a lover of hard-core. My first interest in porn was tastefully-posed girls nude or semi-nude but the coincidence of first sex with my discovery of explicit open-legs and spread-bum magazines had turned me on to 'fanny mags' by the mid-70s.

And this first excursion into all-out hardcore magazines made hardcore my main porn target. Yes I still had lots of favourite soft-core models, yes I still bought soft girlie magazines but after the contents and particularly the cover of 'the Sharpshooters' I preferred hardcore and I did my best to find sets of my favorite soft girlie models taking the cock.

Indeed, that was one of the the main things that led me to VEF in 2007, that and Joanne Guest's bottom.

Hi banquomerc, I'm guessing your remark referred to the 'brunette getting a facefull' on the 'Sharpshooters' cover in my post.

Now you mention it I can see a resemblance to Cindy Earl

As for her being 73, well I'm 60 myself and I'm a subscriber to the VEF 'Grannies' thread and know that older women are now the ones most likely to give me my oats, so as long as she's still fit and well I'd happily decorate her 73 year old face in like manner, not to say more.
