Now that I've retired, I tell the time by the sun and whether I'm nodding off watching telly.

Anyone who grew up with the convenience of looking at their wrist to tell the time. Someone who wants to make a public status or fashion statement. A man who wants to wear an article of jewelry that's not a ring or heaven help us a chain or a bracelet. A professional like a diver who needs it as a tool. An athlete who wants to take advantage of the expanding capability of wearable tech. There are lots of reasons to wear a watch. I kidded my sons when they all went out and got Apple watches. Now I wear my Gen3 Apple Watch almost every day. I'll put on an expensive watch - like the Omega my wife gave me for a significant anniversary - for dress up occasions - or one of my Dad's old watches. I even have his pocket watch and it still runs. I have an old mechanical Seiko Divers watch I wear for dirty chore days because if it gets knocked around it is replaceable or repairable. I've worn a watch since I was young and I am unlikely to stop. When I forget to put one on my wrist feels naked without it and I don't have to dig out my phone to tell you the time. However, if you are in tune with your circadian rhythms you probably have a general idea of what time of day or night it is anyway without looking at a clock or watch.

I have a decent watch, but I never wear it. Kind of extraneous these days, unless you are going on a long camping trip in the bush and you want something really rugged to take along that will tell time if you break your phone and/or the battery dies.
I've only had to change the battery in that thing once in 24 years. Those Japanese really know how to build watch batteries.

When I retired a year and a half ago I stopped wearing a watch. If I need to know the time there are a couple wall clocks in my house, a clock on my computer desktop, a clock on my Motorola flip-phone (no smart phone needed for this smart guy), and a clock on my car's dashboard. That's enough clocks for anyone I'd think.

I had an 1882 Elgin pocket watch (key set / key wind) which I used for Civil War reenacting. I could not afford the holy grail, an 1860s Waltham. (You wouldn't believe how ridiculous it looks to see someone in Civil War uniform checking their Timex digital. And we won't even discuss mobile phones.) I sold it to another reenactor who offered me double what I paid for it.
Right now I have a Seiko and a Timex, neither of which get worn more than half a dozen times per year.

I've always worn a wristwatch and I'll continue to as long as I live. I don't see how having to retrieve your phone from your pocket, wake it up to see the time if it doesn't have always on display, is more convenient than just looking at your wrist.
Now if you don't like having things on your wrist I'll accept that as a better answer than just "well I've always got my phone duuude". Where I work we got some reward points for making an award level with our corporation so I got a Casio G Shock (don't know which particular one it is) that has a solar powered battery and atomic clock calibration. When it's time to come into or out of daylight savings time I just sit it on the window sill and it updates itself to the correct time. So basically I never have to touch it for anything. Plus it's rugged and I tend to slam down my left hand a lot when I lose my temper and I've broken quite a few other watches over the years doing that. This watch can take the abuse.
