Think I heard on the commentary that Buttler was simply being rested.
Maybe they thought today was just a practice session before the real stuff come Wednesday against the Aussies. And talking of that just why are the Aussies over here. Thought it was the main touring parties that got the ODI's. Pakistan just get Scotland. Mind you after today......... The other thing that has amazed me this year is that there is no more Test Cricket before August and then 5 tests in 6 weeks. Where is the sense in that ? |

The fact is that Scotland were excellent today and I congratulate them on that performance.
It makes it all the more annoying that the out of touch ICC reduced the upcoming world cup so severely that an all round decent team like Scotland cannot get a look in. The tournament will be the worse for it. |

I'm not saying they didn't deserve to win, just that the demise of England has accelerated again. "We have a talented team" said Root. All evidence to the contrary.

I think the ICC almost got the format right with 1 pool of 10 teams playing each other once ...I would have gone for 1 group with 12 teams given there are 12 full members of cricket. Far fairer all round Where they really got it wrong was not having a 2nd tier trophy competition for countries who were very close. Rugby 7s have been playing with that format for eons A chance to add some sponsors to the books of the poorly funded nations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_C...er#Group_stage Can cricket be saved from itself? As I said previously, Scotland played well an desered to win. I wish people would be pleased for Scotland and not try to decry England.
I don't think it would have been the same on a full sized test arena. As seen in particular in the IPL, if you have a very flat pitch with short boundaries it becomes a toss-up who wins, not necessarily the better team. Players can tee-off like in baseball and easily whack the ball over the boundar, even with misshits. I still think this is a good England squad but there is no room for complacency. |

But, unfortunately, that's the way cricket is moving away from traditional test matches and 4-day games to ODI's, T20's and this bizarre new format 100/100 (which is NOT cricket). |

Before someone accuses me of whatever, the following is satire.
A couple of Q's about ladies cricket. 1. If the ladies wear whites how can you tell what is under those pj's 2. Is there a 'man of the match' ? (Yes. I do know the answer to that one) 3. And what about third man. 4. Or even a fine leg ? Plenty of those actually. But seriously the ladies get back in the grove with a fine showing in the 2nd ODI against S.A. And something for a home crowd to cheer. |
