Yes, you do. The problem is that in order to provide "exceptional access" to law enforcement agencies to any kind of data the encryption mechanisms that can be used by internet providers have to be made in a certain way reversable. That would create huge vulnerability to internet traffic.

Thus, the request of the snooping brigade to snoop wherever they like will also enable organised crime to raid your bank account.

Default San Diego Union-Tribune article

This article was called Petco has sleekest links in the physical edition...

Quote:
If someone stood on third base at Petco Park on Wednesday and peered skyward, the sight would have been tricky to process.
On the edge of the upper deck, gopher-hating greenskeeper Carl Spackler – in a floppy camo hat, sweat-stained T-shirt, pea-green Army jacket and boots – wiggled his butt back and forth like a duck.
Then the character cemented into movie lore by Bill Murray in “Caddyshack” uncorked a golf shot that would have caused Charles Barkley to wince. The ball rose meekly and surrendered even more quickly, diving into the seats below and bounding around like a pinball.
Spackler, played by Conner Breen, muttered in perfect character: “A Cinderella story …”

And what's the real reason for making life a misery for so many Brits on holiday?

Cameron wants to stick it to the Egyptians, despite no official word from the Russians to support a bomb. Perhaps Egyptian airport security is lax and maybe it was a bomb, but Cameron might also be annoyed that Egypt recently decided to buy a large amount of military equipment from France rather than the UK. The message might be - You want our tourists, then you should do business with us.

Secondly, the government is suggesting that GCHQ / MI6 obtained important communications information about the event. This might be intended to help convince politicians and the public just how much we need full access to everyone's Internet and phone activity and must snoop on as many overseas states as possible. Of course the security services operate above the law already and do what they like, but a new surveillance bill with a few concessions helps to maintain the myth of the UK being a democracy and tends to discourage people from challenging any of this.

And obviously, Cameron likes to be seen as acting positively and doing the right thing.

However, HMG will not be too pleased if it wasn't a bomb and will have to put a brave face on accusations that they over-reacted.

CARLTON BROWN,

Can't say as I really know anything about your PM, but you might want to wait a bit on this decision before getting really mad about it.

I'm sure he was advised to do this as they really need to know what happened before sending in more planes where, it is possible that this could happen again. It is entirely possible there is a single person (or maybe even a whole group) who slipped a bomb on the plane, have yet to be caught and are willing and able to do it again.

What would you think if your MP said fine, let the planes fly, and another went down due to the same cause?

For now, best to just let them figure out what happened. If necessary, those people could make it home by other means or the government may need to provide military transports. But if I was one of the people stuck down there? Hell, I'd enjoy a longer vacation!

Give your MP a break. For everyone's sake he's doing the right thing at the moment.

Funnily enough that interfering busybody Sharmi Chakrabarti of Liberty was on This Week last night talking about this subject and it is frightening to think that what the Government are proposing is as I said tantamount to a 'snooper's charter' but I can't figure out why the public weren't consulted about this - are the safeguards Mrs May says will be in place REALLY protect the average citizen. I suspect not. We all worried about Big Brother back in 1984 and it seems the amount of surveillance we are under at the moment is not enough. I am all for stopping terrorist threats but surely there is another way to do it without putting the frighteners on all of us law-abiding citizens?

I doubt this. If the facts turn out to be that it wasn't a terrorist act that will be a positive development in that a security crisis will have been partially de-escalated. It might mean that Airbus Industrie will have to check a lot of aging first generation Airbus plane if the problem turns out to be structural failure. But for now we really do not know how this tragedy was caused and no one can afford to ignore the risk that there is someone in Sharm el Sheihk with airside access who might plant a second bomb.

Interesting to note just what a bunch of total bastards some of these people were on the so-called Million Mask March(actually thousands not millions at least in London anyway) What sort of sick f*ck goes around injuring horses chucking things including fireworks/thunderflashes at a defenceless animal? I'll tell what sort-cowards the lot of them, hiding behind their silly masks. There is always going to be factions like this who are hell bent on causing trouble(at ANY march or mass public gathering) and they are the ones that give the organisers or other participants a bad name. Policemen were heavy-handed because they knew there would be trouble. It sent a clear message - you get out of hand, we steam in and arrest you. What was the point of hassling a man in an Aston Martin? I bet in normal life those idiots would be photographing and admiring that amazing marque (though they would never admit it) Be against capitalism but come one face reality - there will never be a revolution...and this lot were pretty revolting anyway
