Sandy Johnson ( June 1974) had the great misfortune of being PMOM the month after Marilyn Lange, who I believe is G.O.A.T. The bunny mag also diminished this beautiful natural beauty by putting her CF pose in a baseball hat, socks, and cleats. Why? As they frequently did, they just got too clever for their own good.

Following up my earlier post and having way too much free time, here's my full list.
My choice/actual winner 1959: Cindy Fuller/Ellen Stratton 1960: Delores Wells/Linda Gamble (Tough year! I would have been fine with any of four and Gamble was hardly a "bad" pick.) 1961: Barbara Ann Lawford/Christa Speck 1962: Laura Young or June Cochran/June Cochran (Amazing year top to bottom) 1963: Carrie Enright or Toni Ann Thomas/Donna Michelle 1964: Rosemarie Hillcrest/Jo Collins (Jesus, another incredible year) 1965: Maria McBane or Gay Collier/Allison Parks 1966: Melinda Windsor/Lisa Baker 1967: Fran Gerard or Reagan Wilson/Angela Dorian 1968: Michelle Hamilton/Connie Kreskie 1969: Jean Bell or Helen Antonaccio/Claudia Jennings 1970: Barbara Hillary or Carol Imhof/Sharon Clark 1971: Karen Christy or Cynthia Hall/Liv Lindeland (Great, I pick one of Hef's main squeezes and he didn't give it to her) 1972: Linda Summers/Marilyn Cole (Weakest year so far) 1973: Miki Garcia/Cyndi Wood 1974: Sandy Johnson/Marilyn Lange 1975: Azizi Johari/Lilian Muller 1976: Daina House/Patti McGuire 1977: Nicki Thomas or Julia Lyndon/Debra Jo Fondren 1978: Karen Morton/Monique St. Pierre 1979: Candy Loving or Vicki McCarty/Dorothy Stratten 1980: Gig Gangel or Liz Glazowski/Terri Welles 1981: Lorraine Michaels or Patti Farinelli or Cathy Larmouth/Shannon Tweed 1982: Linda Vaughn or Karen Witter/Marianne Gravatte 1983: Alana Soares or Carina Persson/Barbara Edwards 1984: Penny Baker or Patty Duffek/Karen Velez 1985: Joan Bennett or Devin Devasquez/Kathy Shower 1986: Lynne Austin or Sherry Arnett/Donna Edmondson 1987: Sharry Konopski or Carmen Berg or Anna Clark/India Allen 1988: Shannon Long/Kimberly Conrad 1989: Karin & Mirjam van Breeschooten/Renee Tenison (Really weak year) 1990: Lorraine Olivia/Lisa Matthews (Another weak year) 1991: Saskia Linssen/Corinna Harney 1992: Angela Melini/Anna Nicole Smith 1993: Nicole Wood or Echo Johnson/Jenny McCarthy 1994: Kelly Gallagher or Becky Delosantos/Julie Cialini 1995: Cindy Brown/Stacy Sanches 1996: Karin Taylor or Angel Boris/Victoria Silsvedt 1997: Jennifer Miriam/Karen McDougal 1998: Marliece Andrada or Julia Schultz/Heather Kozar 1999: Stacy Fuson/Jodi Ann Peterson 2000: Brooke Berry or Nefertiti Shepherd/Brande Nicole Broderick 2001: Miriam Gonzalez or Lindsay Vuolo/Dalene Kurtis 2002: Christina Santiago/Christina Santiago (Woot, second time in the history of the magazine that I agreed with them.) 2003: Marketa Janska/Carmella DeCesare 2004: Pilar Lastra/Tiffany Fallon 2005: Qiana Chase/Kara Monaco 2006: Athena Lundberg/Sara Jean Underwood 2007: Patrice Hollis/Jayde Nicole 2008: Juliette Frette/Ida Ljungqvist 2009: Jennifer Pershing or Dasha Astafieva/Hope Dworaczyk 2010: Claire Sinclair/Claire Sinclair (Yay, number three!) 2011: Mei-Ling Lam/Jaclyn Swedberg 2012: Pamela Horton/Raquel Pomplun 2013: Ashley Doris/Kennedy Summers 2014: Shanice Jordyn or Jessica Ashley/Dani Mathers 2015: Kaylia Cassandra/Eugenia Washington (she was a close third) 2016: Camille Rowe/Brook Power 2017: Lada Kravchenko or Liza Key or Jessica Wall/Nina Danielle Observations that are probably interesting only to me- So, 61 PotY and I've agreed with three. If I randomly picked each year, I'd expect to get more hits. I don't deny liking big boobs but looking at my picks for the first twenty years or so, you'd think I was Russ Myer or something. I quit Playboy around 2000 due largely to the plastic-looking robo-blonds with fake boobs that had taken over the magazine. Going through the last ten years or so, it appears there was a definite turn away from that look. In addition to moving away from fake boobs, they also seemed to have moved away from big boobs altogether, real or fake. Speaking of fake boobs, you might have noticed that they are an automatic dis-qualifier for me. It's possible that a few with extraordinarily natural looking fakes got through, but I've got a pretty good eye for it. The trend of thinner and thinner playmates that began in the late 80s or so kept going. The last ten years or so have had a lot of very thin, more fashion-model looking women. Patti Farinelli wouldn't get in the front door now, and that sucks. Hell, most of the playmates from the late 70s and back would be considered "fat" by many today. The pictorials also seem to have become more naturalistic (relatively speaking) and moved away from the "softer," more overtly erotic style that was the norm for so long. |

1984 Penny Baker beat out Karen Valez for anniversary playmate but lost to her for PMOY it doesn't make sense to me. I would have picked Penny but she is my favorite playmate

Loved the models from early Playboy era who filled out a sweater, iE, Elaine Reynolds, Patti Farinelli, Pamela Ann Gordon, Cynthia Myers, Melinda Windsor and even Christa Speck. Just don't make 'em like that anymore. Or it should be said, that Playboy won't even let them in the door nowadays! Shame, such a waste. |

The air brushing was getting really bad. Pl@yb@y willingly walked away from their girl next door Pl@ym@ates and the supermodel silicone era began. However, the real deal breaker? A Bald Pl@m@ate is bad enough. A Bald PMOY must not be tolerated. Ever.

When Dalene Curtis was PMOM, being shaved bald was a novelty still. As the first completely bald PM, I'm not surprised that she was also PMOY. But less that five years later she was no longer a novelty, and that's what soured me.

Basically a list of personal faves. The PMOY was chosen for various reasons. Often it was who was banging Hef at the time. It was also who was able to best represent Playboy at promotional events that year. There were individual quirks. Terri Welles only agreed to become a Playmate period if she were chosen as PMOY. Crista Nicole was offered but turned it down, I'm sure there are lots of others.
My personal faves 1956 Marquerite Empey 1959 Elaine Reynolds 1968 Michelle Hamilton 1974 Marilyn Lange 1978 Vicki Witt 1979 Candy Loving 1980 Gig Gangel (runner up Lisa Welch) 1981 Tie, Karen Price and Patti Farinelli 1982 Kimberly McArthur 1984 Roberta Vasquez 1987 Sharry Konopski 1988 Shannon Long 1989 Tawnni Cable 1991 Cheryl Bachman 1997 Karen McDougal 2000 Shannon Stewart (#1 of all time) 2001 Crista Nicole |
