Just received two Godzilla box-sets from the USA, sad that they are not available on region 2 and need to be imported .
No wonder piracy is so rife

Starting with
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101962/

A UFO is spotted over Japan, the inhabitants say they are here to help get rid of Godzilla but they turn out to be from the future and have a crazy plan to resurrect King Ghidorah to destroy Japan to stop it from being the dominant country in the future.

Good background story involving a group of Japanese soldiers in WWII being saved by a dinosaur who with the help of modern nuclear weapons becomes a more powerful Godzilla, and the 3 cute flying monsters become the three headed Ghidorah.

Great fun and I can even excuse the daft android M11

Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (1992)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104352/

Starting with a cut price Indiana Jones style scene and a meteor like object landing in the ocean near where Godzilla lay. A small intrepid team head out and uncover a giant egg, the name of the place "Infant Island" and the two small female figures hint that Mothra is about to appear
It's a three monster mega deal as the evil Battra also emerges

And that's being wayyy too generous.

Mos def the most bland, mawkish and overrated flick I've ever seen. Saw it once and still can't believe I've managed to make it all the way through. Just like french author André Gide once said, 'It is with noble sentiments that bad literature gets written'

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113187/

A number of small (by Godzilla standards anyway) creatures attack Tokyo then merge into one really big critter, meanwhile we have two Godzillas, a large bright glowing dangerously radioactive one and Little Godzilla (not that little), the larger Godzilla's radioactivity is increasing and a meltdown is feared.
Who you gonna call ???? Obviously G-Force who with the aid of an experimental craft try to freeze him with cadmium missiles.
The smaller scaly beasts are formed from mutated Godzilla cells and the efectzs of the weapon that destroyed the first Godzilla, the Oxygen Destroyer.
G-Force and the military have to stop both these creatures and the bigger bugger they change into whilst also preventing Godzilla from going nuclear.

Brilliant monster mash fun

Thumbs down

Came across this film on the net:

The Passage (1979)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079700/

I had high hopes for it when I saw the cast listing:

Anthony Quinn, Malcom McDowell, James Mason, Michael Lonsdale and Christopher Lee.

Kay Lenz is also in here: she was about 26 at the time.

I will always remember her for winning an Emmy in a guest actress starrring role on 2 episodes of NBC TV series Midnight Caller where she was nominated for an Emmy for one episode and won an Emmy for the other episode.

In both episodes, she played Tina Cassidy, the girlfriend of the show title character Jack "Midnight" Killian.

At the end of the second episode, she dies of AIDS.

It was the first time a primetime TV show tackled the subject of AIDS as being a disease that also affects and kills heterosexual men and heterosexual women and not just as what at the time was still erroneously considered by many as a gay men disease.

Anyway, back to the subject of this movie which is directed by J. Lee Thompson known for The Guns of Navarone, Ice Cold in Alex, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Battle for the Planet of the Apes.

I wanted it to be good and I know war is brutal and not pretty but there is just too much unnecessary violence in it to the point of being way past gratuitous including a scene that will make you never want to step into the kitchen again to cook a meal and also a rape scene of Kay Lenz character, who by the way in this film she is playing a 16 year old girl.

Could had been a good movie but the writers decided that showing violence is more important than having a good story.

What a waste of a group of excellent actors and actress.

1/5

Hereditary. Two hours of my life that I'll never get back. It started out so well too. If only they'd left out the stupid mumbo jumbo and made it a sad and disturbing story about a family in a state of mental collapse.

Came across this.

That feeling you get when you wake up in the morning and you didn't even know Joel & Ethan Coen had a new movie out.

It originally was supposed to be 6 episodes of a limited TV Mini-Series that were retooled into a feature film, released to film festivals and then it saw a limited theatrical run (which qualifies it for Oscar contention as long as a film has been in theaters prior to December 31st) and now to Netflix.

Big Grin Hoots Mon , can`eee believe Netflix spent 120 million on

This

Yet will the buggers give me five percent of that budget for my " Roscoe Arbuckle" biopic script
Will they skid mark
Ok so I also want to direct and of course star
Butt still

Plot = Driven into exile by the rascally Edward I of England (Stephen Dillane) , Robert Da Bruce ( Chris Pine) fights to regain his rightful crown. Thus brutal battles ensue and such.

No I didn't just enjoy this because like all the actors involved.
That the scenery is gorgeous.
It`s well detailed in historical time.
Plus am a third Scotch.
By the end of most evenings
Nor is it due to immediately becoming entranced by Elizabeth de Burgh (Florence Pugh).

I enjoyed it as it`s a darn decent bit of escapism dammit
