Hjsplit is stoneage. Try Avidemux to put avis together. Open avi1 in the tool press append select avi2 and voila. Better save the parts if it goes wrong.

It depends on the format.
Mkv - Mkvtoolnix MP4 - Mp4 Joiner/Splitter Avi - I'd use Virtualdub, but Avidemux works well. And there is most likely an Avi merge or an Avi joiner. There are a gazillion solutions out there. Just try to avoid bloatware. Optimal would be a software that just comes as zip, so no installing needed.

The version I have on winrar actually handles 001 files and does the biz on them too. Can't remember the last time I used hjsplit.
If I want to combine multiple separate but individually playable files I'll use avidemux. With RAR, Part1 and 001 extensions, I use winrar. Probably been said, but there you go If you have an issue like this in future, and need some advice, more than happy to help where I can then again, sure there's lots of us who'd help you out

I think there are 2 variants:
1. Files named .001 .002 and so on which are actually winrar, winzip, 7zip or even winace files. Compressed files that have to be extracted. 2. Files that are named .001 .002 and so on which are actually movie files (most likely avis). Windows links a certain programm because of the ending .xyz to a given file. Double clicking will start this linked programm. In general it is irrelevant what is behind the "." That is just Windows's way to determine file associations. If a file doesn't work, you can use "open with". Try an extract programm or a movie player (vlc). The ending doesn't mean anything - but this could be the problem. If .001 is linked to a zip/unzip programm, it won't work with clicking on it if it is actually a movie file (or vice versa). AFAIR the 001. ... compressed files come from Winace.

It was avidemux I tried using a while back. Gave me some strange messages while trying to concatenate the split movie file. I wonder now if one of the files was corrupted.
I actually found the scene I was looking for in a single zip today, albeit in a smaller format, but that's ok. Next time I try doing a big split movie I will try some of the suggestions posted here, if they don't work I will come crying for help. Thanks to everyone who posted.

In case I have such files, I always try avidemux first for avi's, but when it comes to mp4 or wmv you need other programs. In most cases I use VideoPad Video Editor for mp4, wmv, flv and avi (when avidemux gives me an error). VideoPad Video Editor can do more than comparing files only, so I also use it for cutting (but needs a bit practice).
There are a lot of tutorials for VideoPad Video Editor and it's free

With HJSplit, all you have to do is put all the parts into one empty folder, then click on HJ & find that file. When you choose to open it all files will also automatically join together, leaving one complete file at the end. You can tell by the size of that finished open file. You don't open them all before using HJ, it does it for you.
But always check the file for vid/aud before deleting the original rar files just in case there was an issue. On occasion if you had a blip d-l'ing one of these files then you need to look to check which one is at fault, re d-l it, then try again.
