Recovering files from a damaged CD/DVD
I need a little help, I've got some data stored on DVD discs that I need but windows won't copy them from the disc to the hard drive. I found a little free program called Recovery Toolbox For CD and that successfully copied all but two of the files, has anyone got any suggestions on how I can get those last two files?

We have four computers but the one we always use for ripping old DVDs has a Sony DVD-ROM. It even managed to pull all the video from a disc that was cracked half ways through. Took a few goes but I got there in the end. Programme used was DVD Decrypter. Probably only good for ripping video. You can DL it here:

Seriously? toothpaste? sounds like you're on a wind up.
I'll give both ideas a try in a bit. I should mention though that I'm trying to recover to zip files containing porn to be uploaded here, I don't know if the type of file makes any difference to the method used to recover it.

Seriously, I would try Roto's method first.
You can buy machines for about £10 that will polish the surface of CDs/DVDs. Or use a squirt of toothpaste..... pumice.

It actually worked, I thought you were having a laugh but I gave the disc a good clean and then rubbed the toothpaste on. After washing again I was able to extract the last bits of data.

i believe that blockbusters shops have the cleaning machines in them and for a fee they will have a go at cleaning / polishing, a local cab driver used this method to recover his sat nav dvd

I found Recovery Toolbox for CD Free, a nice little free program. I've just used it to recover some rar files from a dvd which windows couldn't transfer.

[QUOTE=exfarmer;2499965]I found Recovery Toolbox for CD Free
Thanks, I'll try this. Had a problem at the weekend extracting a particular .vob from some Sentik DVDs I bought years ago. Cyclical redundancy check & pack header errors. Strangely enough, it does still play on my stand-alone DVD player, but my PC didn't want to know. Tried; DVD decrypter, shrink, VSO Create, NERO & anything else I could throw at it...apart from toothpaste. |

Toothpaste ( not gel ) on an infected cut will clean it up in no time, also blind pimples
salt rubbed into a cut will help also, it will also help with less scarring when it heals
