There is no panacea when it comes to imagehosts. Whenever a host is considered decent, many people start to use it, and sooner or later the host cannot manage the increased volume and load.

After many users put in a lot of hard work to save their pictures. Imagebam announced they were not closing after all. I'm beginning to wonder if it was all a ruse to get everyone to maintain their site without having to pay anyone to do it.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that this is not the case. If Imagebam/Imgbox had been unable to secure a new hosting solution that would fit their needs, they would have definitely shut down services. There is a lot of work involved when it comes to a switch like this so ongoing maintenance will be the norm for now.

I continually hear this - hard work put in to save uploaded images to hosts

Which reminds me of ex-farmer who got into the habit of uploading files to filehosts and then deleting them from his computer - to save space presumably.

Big mistake because as even the hosts who claim images are kept for ever say

Yes, you should always backup your files.


The definition of saved pics or films or clips or scans should be saved on a

external hard drive (encrytped) , dvd , usb flash drive etc offline

I left out hard drive as that makes saving a failing system messy
and keeps you 1 step beyond the real threat of ransomware


The cloud - file & image hosts should always be treated as temporary storage at best
even if files are up for many many years because they close - ie some image
servers go bad - backups fail and dmca notices are always being sent out in the tens of millions.



Best thing to come out of this is its made uploaders revisit a lot of older posts
which in reality the majority rarely do unless their reminded by a thanks received
or are in the small group who systematically up , check periodically & re-up when required.

Its made them think about the risks associated with having too much content on one host



Downloaders have been going out of their way to visit what they value

Result saved copies now in existence have increased immeasurebly

The more members who save content the more likely it survives when original uploaders have had enough

I noticed that quite a few posts made in recent years went astray. Is there a (little - at least) chance at all that the full images will appear again in the near future? If we knew that the content stored on some determinable servers is lost forever, that would help to limit the amount of posts that have to be restored (if possible). BTW, the only identifiable server names I know of are those where the thumbnails are stored on examples.
