Annoyingly I was on a website only yesterday that had a complete cast listing for SAS, including the drummer and pianist form the band. Can I find it today? No! The best I can do is say that the pianist was Lon Satton who seems to be an actor rather than a musician, which makes me think the band were just miming.
I've previously done searches on Roy Budd and Jack Fishman which have been equally fruitless but I listened to some other Grainer tracks on Amazon, some of which remind me of Zita's strip which is why I think its him. There's a Ron Grainer website here. I also found this link to a Roy Budd discography which says the SAS and SAS Ride Again soundtracks were never issued. We can but hope they are wrong! Seems funny to me - I thought all popular films (and there's no doubting that SAS was popular) had an OST album. |

So, news update, I have just had an email conversation with Massimo at Studiocanal and he believes they may have M&E tracks available. However, if these require transferring from film to digital, it may cost "hundreds of pounds, depending on the condition of the recordings". So, I am now waiting to hear back from him next week after he analyses the tapes.

You're doing better than I am Still no reply from Fat Possum Records re: the Bill Black track, so I guess you'll have that one before me as well!
What's M&E stand for? Would this be the original backing track without the crowd and dialogue over it? |

M&E is Music and Effects tracks, so you're spot on with that description. Just gotta keep everything crossed that my contact comes up with the recording and that it doesn't cost me much!

No word from Studiocanal yet, but I have now ripped the Bill Black version of The Stripper. What is the best way for me to share it with you all?

Just some bad news on my part here. Spoke with Studiocanal and it was going to cost a lot of money to get the copy of the M&E from Steptoe, so unfortunately barring a lottery win, I'm not going to be able to get it.

It seems I am now on a bit of a quest to find every recorded version of "The Stripper" known to exist. Tonight I have discovered that Link Protrudi & The Jaymen recorded a version of it in 1992, on their album "Slow Grind!", which is itself a compilation of burlesque covers! Anyone got anything on this rarity?

As good as it might be you can't do a strip to that, it HAS to be a jazzier version and I just don't think rock music works.
