My mom's chicken and dumplings. She would make them once a week for me.

Dad didn't cook other than grilling steaks.

My Mum's Toad in the Hole. We can never get the batter to rise like hers did.

Also, her beef stew with dumplings. Mine is good, but not like hers and I just cannot get the hang of dumplings.

Abject misery

Ingredients

Take one man (In the loosest sense of the word) who knows nothing but believes he knows everything.
Several torn betting slips.
One woman who actually knows a lot but is too depressed to realise.
Two bottles of red wine
Half a pint of resentment
A generous sprinkling of zero parenting skills.
Add no self awareness , to personal taste.
Mix ingredients
Leave to marinade

= Wake me up at 4am shouting and breaking stuff

Mmmmmmm my mouths watering even now

My Mom is a really good cook. She is a great baker. She loves to make Ginger Snap cookies. Her favorite things to make are her muffins: Blueberry Muffins, Bran Muffins, Carrot Muffins, Oatmeal and Raisin Muffins. She also makes this fantastic Chicken and wine sauce dish, and she loves making various baked fish, such as baked Salmon, Trout, and Whitefish.

It doesn't sound wonderful and at times didn't look too great but my mum used to make a sausage pie. It was seasoned sausage meat with a layer of caramelised onions (no...not burnt!!!) in a shortcrust pastry. It was magnificent.

Mom made a great scalloped potatoes, with the basic recipe staying the same, she would make slight alterations in amounts of ingredients and seasonings, so it was slightly different every time, but always delicious.

Mom also had a habit of apologizing for the food she served, no matter what. We'd be praising her food and she'd apologize for something that wasn't put in or not enough of something or some minor flaw only she perceived. When mom started that, we'd just say, "Welcome to Dorothy's House of Apologies."
