I hope Tm does make the switch ... the he will be annoyed like most who switch, frustrating at the start not knowing exactly the way around the machine and keep using Windows habits that don't apply on a Mac.

The there's the annoying small period of wondering why you wasted money till one day you actually decide to experiment About a week after that you're still annoyed at yourself for sticking with Windows for so many years when you finally realise just how simple and fast Apple computers and OS are over it's main rival.

My first Mac was a Mac Mini, gave it to my youngest nieces after a few years of having it, that Mini is now 7 years old, after I gave it a hammering, wiping it clean then giving it to them it's still like the day I first purchased it.

Jake posted that blue screen of death ..... That happened on every single PC and Lap top I had with Windows 98 , XP, Vista and 7. My Mac Mini and this iMac, not a single problem worth mentioning.

"Apple may have only 10% of the market, but it's clearly the top 10%"
- Douglas Adams (back in the 90s)

I've had this mac laptop for 4 years now, I use it everyday, often for 10-12 hours, and it's a brick. It just keeps working. Then I occasionally have to use a windows machine if I'm doing some work stuff that has to be done with windows, and it feels buggy and seems to take ages to 'get going', and I never know if I've fudged up my programming or if the machine is just being temperamental.

Just watched world swimming pool championship.
400 meters. A Chinese won with 4 kilometres ahead.
Poor man.
who 'll take a bullet if he talks.
I remind our French champion Lacourt said he was fed up with those dope men.
Dope men? 4 kilometres?
For those who were born , remind Republic democratic of Germany before 190..

There really isn't a lot of reason to put up with Microsoft if you do not need to run Excel, mainstream accounting software, SQL databases and the like. Business applications got stuck with them long ago and the Apple packages are too idiosyncratic. I've been out of the loop for about 10 years now, but the Apple database packages were really klutzy. Of course, the Microsoft packages were never as good as the third party stuff they sabotaged or bought out and suppressed. (Disclaimer: my animosity towards Microsoft dates back to the 1980s)

Absolutely zero problem with my Windows XP. Then the graphic card in my Hewlett Packard crashed and I changed for a very cheap Samsung (550 $) with mat screen (I hate brilliant screen) and I have absolutely zero problem with my pre-install Windows 8 upgraded in 8.1 by myself.

So what do you want to make with your computer?

Making 3D porn characters with Maya?
Photoshop pussies of randy models?

or writing some emails and surfing on the web?

The secret with Windows, don't add useless freeware, install a good antivirus

and don't surf on xxxpasswordlazybitchcrak.blackinternet....

MS Access is okay, it doesn't feel as 'solid' as SQL but it is quite colourful and user-friendly, tbh I've never even bothered to look into apple's db software. I do have to say that I think MS Excel is an excellent piece of kit, even if they did 'borrow' it from VisiCalc and those guys. Except on the Mac, the version I have anyway, which you can't do anything with, you can't even programme in it. But Excel on a pc is the only reason I actually own a pc.

Thumbs down Women tattooed

Yesterday I was in a music festival for professionnal reason.
There were 35'000 people looking at and hearing a concert.
From several points of view where I was, I observed a "dramatic" thing.
Young and adult women are more badly tattooed than men. They get huge and horrible tatooes on both side of their legs, that cover all their arms, the neck, one shoulder...
Very very annoying, disgraceful.

Now they look like old pirates, like drug addicts. Is common sens dissapearing? Are so many women that stupid? What do they want to prove?

Come on women, you are too nice to wear tatooes on your beautiful skin.

Access may be OK, but I've never gotten into it. I had many applications programmed in Foxpro. The nice part of Foxpro was that it was easy to recycle code and reports. I didn't find Access to be nearly as flexible. Excel also has some quirks, such as making a named range permanent. In Lotus and Quattro Pro, the range was allowed to expand so you could continue running a macro on an expanding dataset. It can probably be arranged somehow through Visual Basic coding in Excel and Access. But it was very annoying to have hours of work made useless by a bunch of undocumented Microsoft calls designed to reduce the functionality of existing programs in markets Microsoft decided to enter. Needless to say, the prospect of having to invest many hours in learning a new programming language was not very customer friendly on Microsoft's part. I was one of many people who were very disappointed when the Justice Department punted on the anti-trust suit when the first round of trials provided clear evidence of Microsoft's guilt had charges been filed under Title 1 of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The Chinese took note and standardized their applications on Linux.

The Apple database products were all flat files, rather than relational databases. So there was no real advantage to using them since Excel spreadsheets can also be treated as flat file databases. Mind you, my experience is quite dated now that I've been out of the hands on roles for about 10 years.
