That was quick. Except that "simone john" still does not find her. There's something mods. can do that triggers an update to the index on the thread title field inside the mysql database back-end, but that hasn't yet happened in this case. Sorry, not sure what specifically triggers it but I have seen this before where mod. title amendments don't necessarily get updated through to the index & so therefore are still not found in searches.

The above is regardless of whether I restrict the search to classic pornstars or just search the whole of vef. Both are thread title searches... obviously. Uhh, both are "advanced search", i.e. I open a fresh browser tab in which to perform the search. A search that does not open the advanced search window is by default an "OR" search, i.e. it looks for "simone" OR "john", and so does return her thread along with many others, but (here) that's effectively similar to an advanced search for just "simone" which would also find her along with other Simones. One needs to open the advanced search window in order to do an "AND" search, where all words in the query are looked for.

Uhh, & my caps above are an idiom of logic expressions, not meant as shouting.

That looks like what I get when I do a non-advanced search for "simone john", which then performs an OR search for "simone" OR "john" in the thread title field, & returns all those results.

When I do an advanced search for "simone john" vef instead performs an AND search for both those terms in the thread title field, and finds no results. What that means in effect is that the word "john" is invisible in the title field for the Simone St. John thread. It shows your field title edit has not been propagated back through the vef & vBulletin php framework & to the mysql back-end database, where that info. is stored. I don't know what switch mods need to do in order to trigger that step, I just know it has cropped up in such discussions with mods in just such similar situations earlier.

Lets test that theory of mine: if I do an advanced search for "simone stjohn", I get the one result of the thread now titled "Simone St. John". So that demonstrates that as far as the mysql back-end database is concerned, your thread title amendment has adjusted the thread title field for that thread, but it has not also triggered an update upon the database index upon that field, which is where all user searches occur/look.

One of the other mods who has experienced this before may be able to tell you what it is that needs to happen in order to make that index-update occur. If you do find out then perhaps also tell me so I can include it as a reminder the next time this occurs, so that we get the desired result.

This issue seems now to have been fixed/resolved. An advanced thread title search for "simone john" correctly finds the single thread titled "Simone St. John". Thanks.

As an FYI..... when changes are made to thread titles etc., you need to wait for the changes to take effect. The reasons for this are a combination of the following: We run multiple VB servers and database servers and the version of VB that we run was not designed to do this. It takes time for any changes to update on all the servers. This is compounded by the fact that the search engine in this version of VB is problematic to say the least.

There is nothing anyone can do to fix the problems with this version of VB software, so we'll have to deal with it while the techs determine if an upgrade will be feasible.
