I figured as we always seem to discuss the finals in the English Football thread around September/October maybe nice to actually see through a season if anyone feels like commenting

Doesnt have to be about the current season or even the AFL competition
If you follow your local leagues then feel free to talk about it as we do in the english football thread...I'd loved to know whose up n coming and undiscovered before their bought by who ever

Could be about little anecdotes you wish to recall

I recall buying Mark Jackson biography Dumb like Fox for 2 dollars and just the part where he confessed to pissing on St Trevor Barkers back in the showers at St Kilda was enough to say that was 2 dollars well spent.

As the cycling thread has shown talking about past greats or significant events can be interesting memories for those that know and informative for those that want to know more

If Estreeter seems a little bit cranky thats because his team Collingwood Lost...BOO HOO...lol


The Hawks who finished the stronger, booting five of the game's last six goals to run away with a 22-point victory over Collingwood in front of 78,464 fans.

Although the 20.17 (137) to 16.19 (115) would seem to have given justification to the pre-season hype around Alastair Clarkson's men, the coach refused to buy in.
To be fair Collingwood were missing a lot of key personal and had a 1st year Coach in charge who has won nothing but been 2nd in command under
Mick Malthouse who has won plenty

2 Victorian teams who have won the competition many times times

Can't really say I've seen the Aussie game so much mate, but they look fit hard guys and every time I do see it on TV the crowds look huge.

As someone who stays well clear of tipping competitions I feel for you but I think you might be over reacting


Actually it was harder round than it looked given the number of close games


Reigning premiers Geelong losing to Fremantle in Western Australia
was not one I would have picked


The age old adage of picking home teams is a sure in

Not if those playing at home include
Richmond,Melbourne,Greater Western Sydney or the Gold Coast

Richmond had pre-season form Carlton none

Melbourne with the Jim Stynes death...we've all seen mediocre teams pull one out

As the new team of last year showed it wasnt beyond occasionally winning

Port Adelaide winning a game straight off after 3 wins last year was a miracle


After that i'd say your 5 stack up pretty well until you find out someone picked 8...lol


As for tipping competitions it really is pure luck and i say that because when I ran a tipping competiton for 5 years the girls who hated football wouldnt even study the guide
and they'd finish top 10 out of 30 every time.

If you think about probability the best way to think is its a 1 in 2 chance
All that extra info you take in versus the person who reads nothing will still
make it a 1 in 2 chance more times than not

Australias best fullback of this generation hints a boxing career is on the cards after football but only if he can fight against midgets

Geelong defender Matthew Scarlett can accept a three-match ban for striking Fremantle's Hayden Ballantyne last Saturday....multiple angles of the blow...quite good watching for those that dislike them with a passion

Aussie rules which is actually originally an aboriginal game that us whites largely added a few rules to and made into a business doesnt have a lot of competition for crowds
especially in the Aussie Rules heartland of the Southern States

Even in the Rugby league heartland of Queensland & New South Wales Aussie Rules has slowly but surely got a hold after Rugby league was a huge headlining event Nationally due to the State orf origin series between the 2 States in the 80s before it slowly waned.

When I was a kid, dad too me to Kardinia Park for the 1st time, I was about 5 or 7, Geelong played Collingwood that day, Collingwood won, so I've been a Collingwood supporter since.

The other reason, I found way back when there were more rounds played on a Saturday afternoon, If Geelong lost, there seemed to be less people out in the pubs and clubs that night, so it was a lot quicker getting served, and I liked hanging crap on anyone I knew . But I copped just as much back

All the favourites won apart from Premiership Fav Hawthorn who threw away a handy lead to lose to last years premiers Geelong making it 8 losses in a row since 2008
