What has happened is last season has created a false aura about the cub. It seems the owners have falllen into the trap of believing their own hype. Leicester are historically a team that struggles in the top league. They will often be around the bottom 5-6 clubs fighting to avoid relegation. Last season was basically a miracle where everything that could go right did. It happens rarely but for LCFC it all came together at the right time for them to win the title.

Ranieri leaves with the highest win percentage of any coach at the club. I believe he is only the 7th manager to win the PL title. He leaves the club after making history with Leicester. He will be missed by most fans. Having been out and about tonight I have yet to meet anyone that agrees with the decision to let him go. Most felt he should be given the chance to finish the season. The problem is now we are talking about £100m+ in revenue to stay up. Sentiment or personal feelings have gone out of the window and the bean counters have had their say. Sadly it means Ranieri has gone. Most fans will miss him that is for sure. However at the same time should any new manager keep them up you can bet they will be seen as a saviour...............................

As above. I'm not surprised he was sacked, I think it was just a question of time, that is the harsh reality of football. Yesterdays hero is tomorrows victim.

As for Rooney? The Chinese are still interested in him, and so are Everton.
Hopefully he will go in the summer, he's past his sell-by date by a good margin, and if he does go I won't be the only United supporter who will breath a sigh of relief.

Clearly something was wrong at the club and it led to his sacking. I think some players probably were upset. Ulloa said publicly that he felt betrayed by Ranieri about a move away from the club. Its easier though in some cases for players like Mahrez and Vardy to blame the manager than look at their own faults. Those two players especially have been extremely poor this season. However its possible their egos don't allow them to see their own faults but project them and blame the manager. Once results go south other players are sold on the idea its the managers fault and like a cancer it spreads. It happened at Chelsea a few years ago when AVB was in charge. Terry and Cole especially got him the sack even though they were as much to blame with their poor performances.

In football it is easier to simply sack the manager rather than have a clear out of players. We see it all the time, often every week at some points of the season. Ranieri screwed up at the end I think that much is clear as he had no plan B. However at the same time his players badly let him down and they rather than him I believe are the main reason for their struggles. At the end of day Ranieri can be extremely proud of what he did at the club. He will always be remembered fondly for the PL title win. Nothing can take that away, even this unfortunate ending to his management career at the club.

Players "unhappy" with manager is code for "we haven't done our job all year so it can't be us let's blame him".

You have a Cinderella story last year. Owners probably overpay the players just to try and keep the magic going, clock strikes midnight and players turn back into pumpkins and Ranieri is portrayed as the evil stepmother.

I was afraid this could happen but I thought Ranieri had earned the right to finish out the season IF HE WANTED TO. Not be stabbed in the back by management.

I also hope they get relegated now.

As you may guess I'm a life long Leicester fan. What happened last season will live with me forever. I never thought I'd see the day when we won the league.

I'm desperately sad about what's happened to Claudio but there have been rumours about dressing room unrest for months now. Some of our supporters have wanted him gone since before Xmas.Whatever, I just hope we stay up now.
