Southgate had the perfect opportunity to stamp his authority down and freshen things up. He stated Rooney would not play every game but then bottled it and has kept him as captain. So we have a new man in charge but the same old boring staid ideas. Southgate proving immediately why he is labelled the yessist of the yes men.

Because the US is in the midst of the NCAA championship playoffs for both men's and women's teams at all three divisional levels, it made me wonder:

Do the Universities in Great Britain actually have sponsored football teams (i.e., not clubs set up by students but ones that are supported by the Universities, who would supply uniforms, coaches, travel expenses, and possibly scholarships?) Are there athletic scholarships for any other sports?

I remember Bath University from a few years ago when Team Bath played in the FA Cup. I think any team that includes the word 'team' in their name should be shut down immediately. Especially Team GB in the Olympics.

Just because the spud-faced granny grabber stays the official captain doesn't mean he's going to start every game.
I've never understood why there is so much fuss about being captain anyway. It's pretty meaningless in a football team.

The title is meaningless but the actions are not. A good captain can get his team organized on the pitch and motivate the players. He is basically the manager whilst they play. Rooney can do none of those things. He shouldn't be in the squad at all and this was the perfect chance to retire him, yet he chose not to do so.

Ray Hudson of Bein Sport has just given a shout out to all the illegal streamers in the UK watching El Clasico online . He obviously knows due to the draconian laws we are unable to watch it live on tv. I am still trying to work out why they have not updated those laws to allow foreign games to be shown before 5:15pm.
