Not wanting to tempt fate, but if Zidan or Vigo passed away...they'd have less coverage in the UK, and they were each a notch or two above Stevie and Paul.
Yes, but, they weren't British, nor are we familiar with them on a day-to-day basis. Also, while Figo (you did mean Luis Figo, didn't you?) was a great player over his career, my lasting impression of him is him going missing in a Champions League Final. Gerrard never did that. It's not always about sheer talent.

I think not winning a Premier League title is, no matter what he may say, going to haunt Gerrard. I think a league title is the ultimate achievement for a player because of the long slog needed to win. Cups are fine, everyone want to win a cup also, but you can win a cup by luck. Its near impossible to win the league on luck because of the number of games played. You maybe get 3-4 games where you get lucky but that is only 1/10th of the games played. 3-4 lucky games in a cup run and you are nearly at the final. I don't think it makes Gerrard any less of a player not to win one but I think it will hurt him not to have done so. Sadly for Gerrard the most likely memory of his PL days with some fans will be the slip.

Stevie G was the only player of his generation at L'pool that I would have liked at my beloved OT. Enjoy your "retirement"

It's going to be down to the individual. Most footballers never win anything, let alone the league title. If Gerrard had the full set, he might just hang up his boots and buy a pub. If he still feels he has something left to achieve that might give him the impetus to make a go of coaching/managing. I think he's had a great career and not winning the title shouldn't be a too big a regret for him.

You are right it does come down to the individual and he did have a great career. As I said not winning the title doesn't change what he did for Liverpool as a whole or the player he was. However I think being so close a couple of times at the end of his career will leave him with that title regret. Maybe as you say that will motivate him and he will win it as a coach or a manager.

We now have El Hadji Diouf commenting on Gerrard, claiming the former Liverpool player 'couldn't look him in the eye as he was scared of him'. Diouf then went on to say he disliked Gerrard of the pitch and as a person. I have to say that in my opinion, Diouf is the most obnoxious, odious player to have ever played in England. Whatever anyone thinks of Gerrard, he is a gentleman compared to Diouf. There have been many dislikeable players in football but I cannot think of one more despicable than Diouf.

Diouf would be more credible if he was actually a decent footballer and even more so a decent person. He is not and I highly doubt he will be remembered by most fans in the near future. The only reason they know about him now is because he constantly has a pop at Gerrard on social media. If he stayed off social media for a few months people would unlikely mention his name again.

The thing is Diuof maybe right, we will never know. The problem is because he made such a dick of himself throughout his career no one really cares either way. Saying it on the day Gerard announced his retirement once again shows what a waste of space he actually is.

Depending on your point of view this could mean something or it could mean nothing. Bayern Munich have given the dreaded vote of confidence it seems to Carlo Ancelotti.

No that is Joey Barton! (IMHO) but Diouf was a close second.
