It's not just coastlines it is also on building sites too.

Some years ago, whilst working on restoring a building, a small bomb was discovered in the shed! Not being anything I knew of, and certainly not being an expert on these things, the police were called.
Eventually a police sergeant arrives in his panda car, goes into the shed gets on his radio and says,'Yep,they're right, there is a bomb here!' 10/10 for observation!
Anyway, they call the bomb squad and a couple of hours later a couple of army AT's (Ammunition technicians) arrive, all the way from the other side of London ( it took the police nearly an hour in a car, and we could see the bloody police station from the house!). When I remarked how quickly they (the army) had arrived, they pointed out that they knew the way as they came to the area nearly everyday! Living at the time quite close to the old Croydon aerodrome, the whole area had been liberally plastered during the war, and 'stuff', they told us, turned up all the time. Only the day before they had been out there to dispose of an AA shell - what goes up, and doesn't explode - must come down!

Certainly there is plenty of the 'stuff' still around! So be a little careful

Oh, and for the record, the bomb in the shed was a practice round, a dud, though nobody knew that, least of all the two army AT's who were coming to deal with it. They, and all of their kind, have my absolute respect!

Whilst in Bosnia I was talking to a bloke from bomb disposal, he told me that there is 50 man years worth of bomb disposal work, and thats the stuff they know about. Apparently there is an unexploded German bomb in the cellar of St Thomas hospital in London.

In the recent Sochi Olympic Winter Games British snowboarder, Ski Sunday co-presenter and commentator Ed Leigh was once the reigning British snowboard slalom champion but the competition was abandoned in 2002. However he lost his title to fellow commentator Tim Warwood in a race held on the snowboard course last week and now Warwood is the new champion-but that will last forever until someone restores the British Championships again. And yes it was done under full race conditions incase you were wondering.

It comes down even if it does explode. In pieces big enough to break our heads

Did you know ???

The Australian Capital City, Canberra, got it's name from this

Quote:
The word "Canberra" is popularly thought to derive from the word Kambera or Canberry which is claimed to mean "meeting place" in the old Ngunnawal language, one of several Indigenous languages spoken in the district by Aboriginal people before European settlers arrived. According to Ngunnawal Elder, Don Bell, the correct translation is "woman's breasts" and is the Indigenous name for the two mountains, Black Mountain and Mount Ainslie which lie almost opposite each other

The Teton range in the Rocky Mountains takes it's name from "Le Trois Tetons" (The Three Breasts) a name given to it by French Voyageurs.

In January 1848 while building a sawmill for a Mr. John Sutter, James Marshall was working in a small river about 50 miles from Sacramento when he found in the river some small nuggets. This was the first gold from the area.
This find, at first kept a little quiet, was to lead to the great Gold Rush of the 1850's and 60's.!

Referrring to breasts as 'Paps' , goes back to Ireland, where 2 sacred mounts The Paps of Anu are named after an ancient Earth Goddess
On top of each hill is a prehistoric cairn, which are believed to be miniature passage graves or house burial cists.

Further to this last post it lost a bit on the end - it should have read
When working as an organist Puccini stole and sold the pipes then changed the harmonies so no one noticed the missing notes.

The punishment for serving bad beer in Babylon was drowning!

Bush Market in Kabul, named after George W Bush, sells food and supplies stolen from US military bases. (Now that's what I call enterprise!)

Americans were so certain crime was caused by alcohol that, on the eve of Prohibition, some towns in Iowa sold their jails.

In Roman law, balnearii were criminals who stole clothes from public baths.
