Downton Abbey(to my mind a complete rip off of Upstairs, Downstairs) is seen on television being watched by security man 'Happy' (Jon Favreau)the friend of Gwyneth Paltrow's character Patricia 'Pepper' Potts in film 'Iron Man Three'(2013) and just a few days ago the snowboard bronze medalist Jenny Jones said she relaxed by catching up with episodes - Odd how global this simple story of posh folk has become, especially in the USA. I can honestly say I haven't seen ONE episode and preferred the afore-mentioned Upstairs, Downstairs anyway "Ooh Mr 'udson!'

I'll bet that was fun between your dad and your grandfather! My father, brother and both my grandfathers were Tottenham supporters, so I suppose I never really had a choice - not that I'd have it any other way of course!

The Bishop of Winchester owned 36 brothels (stew houses) on the banks of the River Thames at Southwark. The prostitutes were known as 'The Winchester geese'!

The original logo of the Jacksonville Jaguars was a full-length leaping jaguar in profile. After the similarity to the logo of Jaguar automobiles was noticed, it was changed to a jaguar's head. Ironically, Jaguar is owned by Ford, and the Ford family owns the Detroit Lions.

Well I wouldn't know about that my grandfather died before I was born.
Actually no, he hates football, and I was brought up to love athletics, attending many meetings with my family. I never followed the herd, shows what an individual I am doesn't it.

Back to theme. Did you know that...The Hiroshima atom bomb explosion was generated by matter weighing no more than a paper clip!

The second atomic bomb wasn't destined for Nagasaki, it was meant for the base of Kokura, but that was covered by cloud, and as they were ordered to bomb visual only, they bombed Nagasaki instead!

Did you know...
Coffee beans are not beans at all, but the dried seed of a fruit, similar to a cherry pit.

Some TV did you knows.

Andrew O'Connor comedian and presenter of 'On the Waterfront' - kids saturday morning show in the 80s is now a successful producer of television programmes, but he started out winning Young Magician of the Year. He also did a pretty good impression of the late Bob Monkhouse - something he did when he appeared in a revamp of Celebrity Squares in the 90s on ITV.

80s funnyman Duncan Norvelle, who used to pretend to be very camp(even though he had a girlfriend) and came up with the catchphrase 'Chase Me', which was part of his act, was in fact a tremendous impressionist-this he demonstrated on Bob Monkhouse's comedian show on the BBC in the late 80s. He did an excellent James Mason.

And speaking of Bob Monkhouse, did you know he was an accomplished cartoonist. He used to illustrate his famous jokebooks, brought out a jokebook with his own cartoons and hosted Quick on the Draw, a programme for illustrators/cartoonists featuring the late Willie Rushton, himself a good cartoonist and Bill Tiday amongst others.

Former Blue Peter presenter Michael Sundin, only lasted one year with them before he had to leave-this was because he was photographed dancing in his underwear with a male stripper at a London nightclub. According to Biddy Baxter years later, he left because "he wasn't popular with the kids and not for his sexual proclivities" After that he found himself playing the role of Tik Tok, in a Walt Disney film called Return to Oz and died at an early age from an AIDS related illness although this was covered up and liver disease was given as the reason. Incidentally he was once the 5x British and 1x World Trampolining Champion.

And finally former children's tv producer Cynthia Felgate(well done if you remember her) had more screen credits than even Aaron Spelling in the US. And that gentleman is still a record to this day.
NOTE: None of this came from that QI book

One for the WWII buffs...........
Did you know that Heinz Brandt (who saved Hitler's life on 20th July 1944 by moving that pesky briefcase) also had a rather close shave during a previous bomb plot?

On 13th March 1943, Hitler had been to see the troops on the Eastern front.
Brandt, who was flying back to Berlin with Hitler, was asked by an officer if he would take a bottle of Cointreau with him to give to another officer as payment for a lost bet.
Brant agreed, not knowing the bottle was in fact a bomb.
Luckily for all on the plane that day, the Russian cold prevented the bomb going off, and upon the planes safe arrival it was quickly picked up by one of the conspirators.

A little over a year latter Brandt moved the case and lost first his leg, then the next day his life.

Makes me wonder if Hitler was the target at all, and if Brandt hadn't pissed off Von Stauffenberg's by running over his cat or something.

The most popular flavor of Ben and Jerry's ice cream is Heath Bar Crunch.

And in the early days, it fell to poor Jerry to cut up the frozen Heath Bars into the proper proportions using a cutting board with a grid. Boring, grinding work that sent Jerry into such a state, he picked up the 20 pound box of Heath Bars and cast them to the floor....whereupon all the Heath Bars broke into pieces.

Cue the light bulb above Jerry's head.

Through some trial and error he eventually discovered that dropping a 20 pound box of frozen Heath Bars from a height of six feet (or two meters) made the frozen bars shatter into precisely the correct dimensions required.
