One of the actors in the film "the elephant man" was a relative of Treves.

Did you know I got belted and detention for laughing during that film, it was shown in Social Studies class.

I should think so too! Mel Brooks was executive producer of "the elephant man", but he didn't have his name on the titles as people would have thought it was a comedy.

Speaking of Mel Brooks, in his film in the 70s Silent Movie the only person to speak was the well-known mime artist Marcel Marceau and I think his only line was "NON!"

Eric Sykes and Sir Sean Connery were both very good golfers. Connery plays golf for real in 'Goldfinger'.

In 'The Prisoner' 60s tv series Patrick McGoohan is seen in the opening titles driving a Caterham 7 car made by Lotus and the numberplate KAR 120C is mentioned in one episode.

TESCO supermarket were the first to trial computer/remote control shopping. A pensioner was given a special unit with a built in phone button to order, via a computer terminal, groceries from her local store and then it was delivered direct to her door. She was given 15mins tutorial on how to use it-All this was nearly 20yrs before the Internet online shopping boom took off.

on the subject of the elephant man ..
john merrick was a willing participant in those freak shows
he wasnt kidnapped and dragged back by michael elphick to be held against his will

changing tastes in the 1800s outlawed or at least to begin with frowned upon those freak shows and he went willingly to science [ represented by anthony hopkins in the film ] to be poked and prodded as he was struggling to make a living .

as for whether he developed a crush on hannah gordon [ hopkins wife ]or not i dont know

Anyone not having a crush on Hannah Gordon has something wrong with them.

Although it is widely believed that Michael Jackson purchased the Elephant Man's bones this was a rumour he started simply to see how long it would take to be reported in the press as fact.

According to next week's Radio Times for a new series about the Two Ronnies on G.O.L.D. channel, the "Four Candles" sketch had a working title called "Annie Finkhouse"(anything else?) by Ronnie Barker but thankfully they dropped that idea.

John Merrick was quite a savvy person. He realised he was a freak and he realised he could make some money from it.

A lot of the freaks of that era were of the same attitude. When the "reformers" came along to stop the "exploitation" of the freaks, their attitude was, "Why are you interfering in my business?"
