It was not that long ago when tattooed ladies were in the freak show at the fair. And that is where they belong.

In principle, I'm not into them. However, I won't be holding it against a chick if she really wants them. My only advice to chicks is that they have them nowhere near their tits, that is ugly. On their limbs and back is fine, but stay away from the tits. It spoils the view. Even on the arse as well.

To my mind there's a clear delineation between two types of tattoo: on the one hand (hate) there's getting a tattoo because Mr Beckham or Mrs Cole or (insert name of meaningless 'celebrity' here) have got one, or because you've been on a package holiday to Phuket & you feel the need to prove it, or, worse, because you've reproduced & you're desperate to prove that, etc etc. Then on the other hand (love) there's body art, and marking yourself because you have a specific and long-considered wish to do so, for whatever reason that may be.
See what I did there in the brackets...?! Oh, never mind! So, the so called 'tramp-stamp' (just some random curlicue or Celtic knot (bleaurgh!) or western-bullshit-pseudo-Mauri attempt (bleeauurgh!) at the base of the spine or top of the neck etc) does nothing for me whatsoever, & while it doesn't particularly offend me I can't help but agree with the argument that "if that's there to provide a pleasing frame for your butt you might perhaps have borne in mind that it'll outlast the pleasing potential of your butt!", I do also feel passionately (it's a human rights thing) that we own only one thing, we will never truly own anything more, or less... and we, all of us, have every right to say "this is the skin I live in, look at it, deal with it, love it, shut up, or fuck off", and I have nothing but respect for anyone who exercises that one true right. So, in short: a beautiful sleeve on a girl... a chest-heart that's from the heart... a personal design and self decoration ... a statement... a declaration of self-ownership... a "you don't have rights over me, only I have rights over me..."... Absolutely, emphatically YES. ... an "out of the book" pseudo-Irish thing over the arse... nah!! ... but I still respect everyone's right to do with their body as they see fit. ... ! [edit:... otherwise I'd have no right being here! Lecture over, thanks for attending, now... back to the matter in hand...]

... unless it's on a part you really don't want lasered! I have just the one & my tattoist messed it up (not embarrassingly or anything, just scruffy) because she was arguing with her bank on the phone at the time, calling them a bunch of c**ts & everything, was a very funny experience while I was endorphined-up & everything!... but I still love it (shit as it looks) because it's an important reminder to me - I decided a thing & had myself marked accordingly - it's not beautiful - but then neither am I, and it's an important part of me. ... but, sparks, even if you couldn't have it lasered, you could have it blanked-over with something else...?

That's great - never have'em done abroad, or in a language you don't read, unless you're very, very nice to your tattooist... very, very, very nice indeed!
I remember a report about one (about 10 years ago) where an English boy thought the Chinese letters spelled out his name, but in fact it said something along the lines of 'ugly, fat, white loser boy, no one will ever love him' - how good's that (or bad if you're him)?!
