Vegemite started as a war-time substitute for Marmite

This story shows just how useful it really can be

Vegemite (Australian Marmite) could be banned because people are using it to make moonshine

Forget about nasty vegemite and watch out for OJ

“Orange juice is a bigger issue, you’re fermenting orange juice and using nappies to filtrate it and making almost pure alcohol from it after fermenting it,” he said.

The Vegemite is simply a source of yeast to start fermentation. Do they suggest banning bread, too?

Question

Australians mainly from what I have read put Vegemite on bread or crackers. Do Australians also like fruit jelly or jam, and/or butter on bread or crackers?

The average American has for breakfast some kind of cereal with some type of milk. If one has time they might also make some kind of eggs, and maybe bacon or pancakes with syrup, or an egg omelette, or toast with butter, and/or jam.

What does the average Australian have for breakfast before rushing to work?

Not too sure about the "average" but here's my menu:-

Corn Flakes, full cream milk & sugar
Fried egg & ham or Poached egg
White/Wholemeal toast, margarine w/marmalade jam or peanut butter or vegemite or honey
Coffee or tea

Pancakes w/honey or strawberry jam maybe on the week-end.
