In America one commonly sees some kind of animal on a major road. I don't mean expressways because there are fences preventing any four legged critters from getting on expressway roads, but the millions of smaller high speed roads that criss cross the nation. If one is in a car, or SUV, or a van, or a truck (lorrie) and moving at high speed and sees some critter up ahead, whether big or small, in my opinion it is better not to try to avoid it. I don't want to kill it, but trying to swerve to miss the animal can cause one's vehicle to tip over or crash into another vehicle. More often this kind of thing happens in the dead of night. The dead animal is usually eaten by one or more predators that are in the area.

When I was living in the states My fellow sailors and I used to tell all the yanks that koalas were called "drop bears" they weighed in at 200lbs plus and would drop out of trees onto unsuspecting tourists and eat them alive.
bwahaha Of course savvy aussies avoided trees like the plague. It's amazing how many yanks bought that crap. |

That stretch on the Hume that's dead straight for quite a distance just past the servo at Avenal, found out how fast an XR6 turbo will go
Yeah true, I don't mind the odd Budweiser now and then
