God I hate it when that happens....

Had a classic last night- I don't know if there are any Guardian readers amongst the VEF faithful, but it has an occasional feature in the Culture section called 'How We Made', in which a couple of the people behind a well-known film/TV programme/play/movie/song/album/whatever talk about.

Well, last night one of these turned up in a Google search result, and as you so often do on the interweb, I got distracted from what I was originally looking for and ended up reading more of the series- Which is why I've got Richard Harris' Macarthur bloody Park stuck in my head this morning....

I don't know if it's an urban myth, but supposedly, 'Stairway' is on the list of songs that some guitar shops absolutely forbid customers from playing when they're trying out instruments

I can see that- I mean, just imagine the sheer hell of your working day consisting of having to listen to half of your customers play the riff from 'Smoke on the Water' very badly...

There are on YouTube many interviews with Ritchie Blackmore-but this particular one is special-in it he reveals that that most recognisable of all riffs-'Smoke on the Water' is Beethoven's 5th played backwards-and tweaked slightly-and then he demos exactly what he means...[mind you he was such a good guitarist he could have been having the interviewer on....but both he and Jon Lord had had extensive classical music training before embarking on heavy rock careers....so it is possible he wasn't just making it up...]

I noticed that the day after Thanksgiving, they started cranking up the Christmas music. Aaaarrrrggghhhhh...

In the meadow we can build a snowman
Blah blah blah blah blah blah something browwwnn...

Let me just bang...my head...against...the table twenty or thirty times...

Where the sleigh bells glisten, and children listen...

"Gee, are you sure you have to go already?"
"Yeah, by the time I fill the bath with water, get the extension cord and the lamp..."
